sometimes when I am listening to some great jam, all I can form into words is.. "I love Phish"... i often google that phrase just to see what comes up..

I miss the old days chillin in my friends living room for hours on end, listening to phish, while we smoke out and play video games with the volume muted. man, those were simple times. growing up can be rough.. at least I still have great jams to carry me through

Amen, man

Rift and Tetris got me through college

NBA Live 2002 and 2003 for me...ah, those were the days.

We'd go for a cruise, blast some Phish, then come back and duel it out.

I currently beat up on Wii people while listening to phish after some fonegrown. Certain nights, Marie will join me, and we'll team up to beat on them together.

Realized this morning when I arrived at work listening to Neil Young, Sleeps With Angels, that Phish is practically the only music that I'll continue to listen to the end of the song after I've pulled into a parking space and shut off the engine. Whenever I'm listening to most other things, I'll jump right out of the car when I arrive. If Phish isn't over, I sit there and finish enjoying it.
Here's your ticket pack your bag

Phish reminds me of discovering that I clearly had an inner nerd and was now willing to embrace him. That was Rift. Then I started actually going to shows and Hoist came along. Th Hoist sound reminds me of muddy feet and running through fields. Everytime I hear Sample I see running Birkenstocks.

I miss the days of sitting in my buddies backyard listening to Billy Breathes thinking "This is the only band I want, forever". That buddy is now off to college and I am alone here without another Phish companion. I'm taking my best friend to his first show in November. He likes Phish a little bit, but he doesn't like how "in your face" they are. He would rather chill back and throw on some GD, but hopefully after the show I can get him introduced to some Phish.

I just got back to Vegas, I'm staying at Sean's place along with Cari. This weekend was amazing. Halloween was epic.

I have heard a lot of people lately saying Phish shows are song-y the first set, and jammy the second set... and I begin to wonder if they are thinking of the Grateful Dead.

I was eating breakfast/lunch with Hank and Nick yesterday and Hank said something I really liked.

i would love to hear Phish cover Lynard Skynard

and i'm glad Phish are back, I am back to Phish.. and that they are playing with so much Joy. I feel like I've gotten a more rounded band, out of 3.0 Phish. I don't expect them to stay this way forever (fine if they do) but that's what I like about Phish.

we are all being pursed. some have been found, some are still running. some will keep running until they get to the end of the road, straight off the proverbial cliff. you don't have to turn back, you just have to turn around.

I've been listening to 8 all week, and I have to say that their attitudes really come through the music. Certainly they're just not executing the songs as neatly as I'd hoped, but at the same time the flubs don't scream "something's gone terribly wrong with the condition of these humans I cherish" at you.
:D

For example, I was listening to Coil from 10/31 and Trey really loses his place in the first composed bit ... but when they get to the final composed part, before the final "It got away" section, he absolutely nails it, just plays it totally right.

Another one was the Fluffhead from Hampton - he lost it briefly, but then got back on track before the end of that particular guitar phrase, which really blew my mind. Those composed parts are so demanding that it's amazing he can get back on track once he slips up. Check out that Fluffhead, it's really cool how he does that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's a relative sloppiness to 3.0 so far ... but they seem like they're trying so much harder, and the flubs are (usually) handled nicely. I also suspect that this tour will tighten them up even more.

I just kinda get tense when things like, ... the ending of Esther is still getting botched, or that Trey's main riff in Maze still isn't played right, or that the quick fancy riff at the end of Golgi keeps coming out wrong ... feels like I'm bitching, but I'm not ... I'm just curious, and making an observation. Remember how he kept getting the "Thank you Mr. Miner" guitar part wrong? Maybe it's just a matter of there being a lot of demands in their music, and it's impossible to get them all back to perfect by this point.

Ultimately what makes these shows a more enjoyable listen than, say, PH, is the fact that they're really back in every single way. New material. Rehearsed the atonal fugues. Singing well, remembering lyrics. Playing with passion again instead of making droning trippy noises for half an hour. A palpable self-respect for themselves & their craft. And maybe the perfect frame for my whole point: smiling like it's 1992 again.

That grin that's back on Trey's face, man ... I used to tell people about Phish and in my first few sentences I'd inevitably mention how this dude just bounces and grins and drools all night while he wastes every other living guitarist right before your melting face.
