Today in Phishtory!

Postby goldenroad » Mon Feb 20, 2006 6:39 pm

Well...it took a while to dig out this thread, I suppose it's because Phish played very few shows in the first couple months of the year generally...but today is an anniversary of one of the coolest Phish shows ever. I swear I have dreams about this concert, and hardly a day goes by that I don't conciously think about this show and almost every time I hear a segue I compare it to this show. In many ways this show set the standard for what a great phish show could be and it's hard not to pay attention to it. Well 16 years ago today, some lucky folks down in Hotlanta got a real treat...If any of you haven't heard this, pm anyone on this board (except me, I'm busy) and ask for a copy, you won't be disappointed.

Best single set ever. There are better entire shows but no one set is that good (well, except Big Cypress). I believe that.

Great call GoldenRoad. I too was looking for this thread on this memorable day. Definitely going to have to listen to the show on the way to hockey and on the ride home as well.

Totally agree with it being THE best set Phish ever put on (except Cypress).

As far as post-hiatus goes i don't think Rosemont 2-20-03 get's very much credit. I loved it from start to finish!

i love 2/20/93 but right now my copy isnt cutting it. there are two sourcea a sbd and dsbd. i have the sbd and it is definently not an sbd. unless it just sucks. still though...its so funny how trey just manipulated that entire set almost. plus theres a really underrated reba on there...first set.

I love how trey "tweezers" Mikes song! This is his song. Sing your song mike. The longest kung that i have ever heard.

I totally agree bigB! 2-20-03 is a great show. The simple and jiboo to end the first set are both great versions, and the second set is just wow. Great tweezer, AMAZING seven below, above average pebbles and marbles. Overall a very solid show. I'll have to give this show a listen after i finish 2.20.93.

2-21-03 Cinci. What a Killer first set,no? The second is pretty hot too. With a mike's and no Paug. But as we all know it showed up the next night in steller fashion. But we can talk about that tomorrow! Lifeboy anyone?

Good call on pulling this thread back out. I too looked for it a while back and got sidetracked in some other Oh Kee Phishtory. There are some other great ones coming up, so let's keep this going!

today marks the 3 year anniversary of one of the top-3 post hiatus shows Phish performed. An excellent "Gin" with an even better "Tweezer." Yeah!

^ Yes it was my first and only Destiny Unbound.
Thanks Gordo. Also it was my favorite Get back on da Train.
What a night. It made the long drive down to Greensboro much more bearable!

i knew someone would bring this thread up for this show. I don't know about you guys, but 2.28 is THE best post-hiatus show by far!! 7.29, 7.15, and 6.19 are great, but none of them are close to NASSAU. I would even say it is top three after 97. THis show is perfectly balanced with great song selection, and tight, inspired playing. Even Mexican Cousin and Round Room are great!

Strong statements for sure....
I don't know if I would call it the BEST post-hiatus show. Well...hmmm...overall, it's pretty damn good. The jamming, other than the aforementioned highlights, is pretty standard. It's CERTAINLY top-3, but I can't call it best.

whoa kaktus a little prickly there eh... Mexican Cousin and Round Room are not the most ambitious Phish songs so he was right to single them out as impressive depite the songs lack of ambition

YES 2.28! What a show. Destiny, Back on the Train, Gin, Walls, Tweezer, Soul Shakedown, Bowie, Hood, Round Room, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So balanced. Definitely agree with post-hiatus guy.

not being pricky ... it's only that i think that RR is a brilliant song, the rhythm thing that is going on in that song ... i love it

and by the way dbphan, what do mean by 'ambitious phish song'? a song with 10 different sections? that rr is not, i agree, but still a very nice and clever song
