Top five Phish songs ever - don't think too hard!

Postby hosemasterflex » Tue Nov 15, 2016 1:27 am

What songs, off the top of your head, could possibly qualify for top five ever songs by Phish? It occurred to me that they really do have SOOOOOO many great songs, it's hard to even rank them. And I wondered what peoples' all timers are. And also it's good to talk about these incredible gems of songcraft.

Give us your real quick top five without thinkin' too hard.

Divided Sky
You Enjoy Myself
Harry Hood
Run Like an Antelope
Stash

I don't like leaving Tweezer, Bathtub Gin, and Takin' Care of Business off this list as they are so important to the whole Phish mythos, but as songs go they are not as well thought out as the ones I mentioned.
Well, here we are, Mr. Pilgrim, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why.

No joke: Dinner And A Movie. I think this song contains so much in three short minutes, and is as deserving of appreciation as anything from Junta.

Dinner & A Movie
The Lizards
The Curtain
The Squirming Coil
Colonel Forbin's f****ng Ascent maaaan

I went with songs that I love and ones that just plain never disappoint live. I'll toss out:

You Enjoy Myself
Tweezer
Down With Disease
Mike's Song
Harry Hood

Hood could be replaced by like a million other songs I like by them but in terms of live relevance and pure joy when it's played, I had to go with that.

No joke: Dinner And A Movie. I think this song contains so much in three short minutes, and is as deserving of appreciation as anything from Junta.

It's no Union Federal.

A Bug in the right spot can be the greatest song of all time.

^ Great find!

From "can you do your top ten phish songs?"

June 16, 2005 (The day before my 18th birthday)

Harpua wrote:1) Divided Sky

3) Birds Of A Feather
4) Roggae
5) Fluffhead
6) NICU
7) Punch You In the Eye
8) The Curtain
9) DWD
10) Bug

The Hardest thing I have ever done.

From this thread: (Knocking on 30's door)

Divided Sky
You Enjoy Myself
Harry Hood
Run Like an Antelope
Stash
Tweezer
Bathtub Gin
Wolfman's Brother
Waves
Billy Breathes

Exactly 1 hold over. I must have been in a weird mood that day if I put Roggae in my top 10. Oh how fickle favorites can be. :D

Aww, I wasn't involved in the last thread. Good thing since I'm not sure I could reasonably do a Top Ten. Top Five is hard enough.
