NYE Run '97 -vs- Island Tour '98

Tuesday, 12/30/1997 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Set 1: Sneakin' Sally through the Alley -> Taste, Water in the Sky, Punch You In the Eye, Stash, Chalk Dust Torture, A Day in the Life

Set 2: AC/DC Bag -> McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Harpua > I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) > Harpua, Izabella > Harry Hood -> My Soul, Sleeping Monkey, Guyute

Encore: Carini -> Black-Eyed Katy -> Sneakin' Sally through the Alley, Frankenstein

Notes: AC/DC Bag included Psycho Killer and Third Stone From the Sun teases. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) made its Phish debut and was sung by Tom Marshall as part of the “Pentagram Harpua,” which also included a narrative about Lost in Space. Pete Carini made an appearance on-stage during the encore. Frankenstein included a segment with Fishman coming center stage with his vacuum. The encore was unusually long; once the band realized they were going to be fined for playing past midnight, they decided to play well past midnight. Sneakin’ Sally was played for the first time since May 28, 1989 (920 shows).

==========================================================================================
Sunday, 04/05/1998 Providence Civic Center, Providence, RI
Set 1: The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > You Enjoy Myself, Theme From the Bottom > McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Bathtub Gin -> Cities > Sparkle, Split Open and Melt

Set 2: Down with Disease, Ya Mar -> Prince Caspian > Maze -> Shafty -> Possum -> Jam -> Cavern
Encore: Bold As Love

Notes: This show included the debut of Shafty, which was then briefly teased by Mike and Trey in Possum. The funky jam in between Possum and Cavern featured some stage banter from Trey about the funk jams the band had been playing. Accordingly, Cavern was played in a slower, funkier manner than usual and included some of the older, alternate lyrics.
