In a tour that has been largely devoid of antics, this show has antics in spades! Banter? Check. Dancing? Double Check. Mashups? Triple Check. Drug related keywords? Check. Kiki, do you love me? Check.

This show was less about the music and more about having fun. And do you know what? I'm fucking glad it was. Now, ole Tom might catch some flak for saying this, but there have been entire shows this tour where it has felt like they were just going through the motions. That description cannot, in any way, be applied this this show.

Even the mostly forgettable first set was fun. Wombat (though kinda bad) was fun. You could tell that Trey, Fish, and Page were having the time of their lives during Wombat. Guelah (despite Trey's "one octave too high" singing) was fun. Saw It Again was fun.

The second set, which so far this tour has been a showplace of top tier jamming, didn't offer too much by way of jamming -regardless of how the set list reads. Drowned is always welcome, but this one was just average. A Type-II NICU might be the musical highlight of the set. Yes, you just read that sentence correctly. Thread was well rehearsed. Then the Runaway->Run Like and Antelope mashup, which admittedly reads better than it actually was, was the most joyful Phish of the year.

Makisupa Policeman featured the keyword: Kush. (An obvious reference to Chicago Bears center Eric Kush, and likely omen that the Bears will win the Super Bowl this year!) It also featured some unintelligible mumbling by Fish, and a entirely too academic expansion on the keyword by Page, duing which he references "A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush" and Trey admits he doesn't know what Page was talking about. I wish Page would have fired back with "When was the last time you picked up a fucking book?"

YEM was really, really good, and A Day in the Life felt pretty appropriate.

Please don't focus on words like "forgettable," "bad," or "average." This show was the most fun show of the year, and quite possibly my favorite because of all the fun. Alpharetta 1's replay value is considerably higher than this one, but if I was told that I could only see one show this year, I would likely take this one.

Definitely a goofy night! For me even on just a recording I thought this was a good show musically too. Maybe it was the weed. Loved that segment with Jim and Antelope and Makisupa. The YEM was good.
