Ok.. I have a funny story for this one. Not only is this in my top 5 favorite Phish songs ever, but the only time I ever saw it was at IT..WITH japanese lyrics!!! HA!

Anyways... my friend Bryan ( no, not my husband, our friend bryan with a Y) gave me this sick copy of it and I popped it into my cd player on the way to work one morning. So I'm flying down the highway doing like 75.. doing the meatstick dance in my car. This old blue haired lady looks over at me from two lanes over in her Cady.. with this look of total confusion. I just grinned, rolled down my window and sang it to her... she just shok her head at me, slowed down and got off at the next exit... I don't know why that struck me as funny, but it did.

*sidenote* I always thought that this song was on ethat Trey might have made up as his " mating dance".. can't you just imagine trey dancing around naked for sue singing " TIME FOR THE MEATSTICK, BURYING THE MEATSTICK, TAKE OUT THE MEATSTICK TIME"!!!!! LMAO !!!

I consider myself to be extremely lucky to have seen one of the demonstrations of the Meatstick dance during the "Year of the Meatstick" in 1999.

i'd like to teach the world the meatstick, favorite time seeing it was at polaris when they announced Big Cypress. All summer there were rumors about where NYE Y2K was going to be and Trey announced it would be in Florida. The crowd was in uproar and it was awesome. Damn chicken dance, Damn you to hell

"i need to take a 5 minute pause...and we'll keep the groove goin'...but i do need to explain something to you, uh, about the song that we're playing right now. and uh...first of all, how happy we are to be here in your town and uh, playing this concert tonight. truly...a wonderful venue and a wonderful crowd......."

i honestly believe that Trey forgot what city they were in.

some performers, if they pull the ol' "we're glad to be in your town, USA," would be booed off the stage! not phish!

Could somebody point the way to some jammed out versions?? It's a cool song and all, but I would like to hear some ones that go out there. Everytime I hear the IT version I think it's going to be longer than it is.

12.5.99 has a SICK Mike's--->Meatstick to open the second set. That's probably my favorite version, mainly because the segue into it is ridiculously cool. 7.12.99 is another good one.

The vision of Momma up there in the second post doing 75, singing the Meatstick to some lady is classic.

Whenever I think of the Meatstick, I always think of the dance, and I always see Sophie Dillof teaching the crowd the moves and performing it onstage with them. I saw here do this soooo many times, that I fell in love with her.

My new favorite Meatstick is the "On a string" version from the Bearsville sessions...it's not the longest, but it still might be the most jammed out version I've ever heard. So many crazy sounds and really weird, nitrous sounding, production.

hearing that version was the first time I realized Mike is singing "On a string." He says it in every version played, but the Bearsville version is the only one where its discernable.

its probably my favorite version right now too, but it really shouldn't be grouped with the live versions.
