^
I have to say that version of Maze is my all time favorite, with many coming in a close second. As for 2009, the Phish did Maze great justice, on just about every occasion. I had the pleasure of hearing the Hampton, Alpine, Cuse, and Albany versions :D .GIVE ME MORE MAZE!

I never really used to like this song for some reason....even the first 20 or so times I saw them play it in the mid-90's to 2000. Then in Kansas (of all places) in Summer 2003 they played it and it blew me away. Realized right then that I had missed out on enjoying this gem for so many years live. I don't really even know why, I listen to that version now and it's not even very good, especially compared to all the others I had seen before it (including that nasty Went Maze mentioned previously). Maybe it was the LSD I ate that night...I was pretty fucking spun

In 3.0 I thought the Alpine 09 Maze was the only decent one until the one at Deer Creek in 2010. And the Alpine one didn't have the smoking Trey solo like they used to (and I miss), but it was so sweet because of the Page B3 solo combined with the chords Trey was playing. It seemed like he kept adding a half-step to each note in the progression which seemed to give him an infinite number of chords to keep building up the tension. And it built way way way way up and the release of that tension was just fucking perfect. It was a great moment for me, especially during that first full tour that wasn't exactly full of good tension and release. Unfortunately the guitar solo after that wasn't the best and the ending riff before they drop out and go back to the chorus was horrid and botched. The Deer Creek 2010 one had the same awesome tension and release, but the guitar solo also happened to kick ass.

If memory serves me right, the MSG Maze was also pretty smokin' last year.

^ Yeah was just going to mention that one. A damn fine version. Also the only one I've seen live so I'm fairly biased

The Maze from Alpharetta this year was near perfect for me. Trey peaked the living shit out of the jam, and Page's section raged too. Those two nights in general were just Trey shredding HARD.

I geeked out and listened to the PNC '11,Deer Creek '10, Alpharetta '11 and UIC '11 Mazes. Findings: This has been a great era for Maze. Deer Creek was wicked, PNC and Alpharetta were spooky. For your own sake everyone should listen to the UIC Maze because it's Trey-tastic. Really rips it up.

The Maze at DC '10 was fantastic. I had never been a big fan of the song, but I was at this particular show and this song was the highlight of the night for me for sure
"I would choose my own religion
And worship my own spirit
But if he ever preached to me
I wouldn't want to hear it

I'd drop him, a forgotten god,
Languishing in shame
And then if I hit stormy seas
I'd have myself to blame"

Another great Maze. 10/29/2013

Here's the video where you get to see Trey headbanging like a rockstar and Page actually spinning around to play as many keys as possible before landing cleanly into the ending riff before Trey's solo.

Here's the link so it won't slow the loading of this page when you scroll.
