I felt like Shine a Light on 12/4 was a very appropriate tune to close the 3 night run at MSG.

The Stones may be British, but they are more NYC than anything else. Or at least have always seemed that way to me. And in a way Phish is too. They may have started out in Vermont, but they have played only Nectars and The Front more than MSG and Mike and Trey both have places in Manhattan.

Or maybe the NY'er in me is just overemphasizing.

Either way it was a kick ass encore.

Shine A Light on NYE.09 was also VERY appropriate.

Sweet Virginia in Charlottesville was also very appropriate!

Free on 12.30.09 was kind of sad, but appropriate, considering Fishman hated HYHU.

Sorry, I will try harder next time.

That's all I ask.

I agree with this, and it was aided by the fact that we were screaming "paaaaarty tiiiiiiime" all fucking day at the hotel and during the bus ride over. I also agree with the After Midnight shout out, along with the 2001 sunrise, and though it might not count, the playing of Here Comes the Sun over the PA after THE set from that weekend.

I'm not a big fan of the "let's play a song because it's got the name of the town we're playing in it" trick...it's a little campy. However, I did enjoy The Wedge at The Went, mainly because it took me a minute to get the reference so I didn't see it coming.

Another one that has not been mentioned that I like is "Cover of the Rolling Stone"

That Captain Hook diddy was a lot of fun. I'm still polliticking for Waste encore at the 20th anniversery show.

Literally the first one mentioned:

ghost_2000 wrote:Cover of a Rolling Stone in Feb 03?

Tributes to Lennon? Hendrix?

Terrapin Station on 8-9-98?

Water in the Sky to open show on 12-30-99?

Rock and Roll at RCMH 2000?

(Obviously I am leaving some out, these are the ones that popped in my head).

I think that's Dr. Hook (and the Medicine Show).

^ That got me thinking about the Dust in the Wind tease at Bonner Springs 03. The full vacuum solo version was unleashed the next night in Alpine however.

^Holy crap! That was my only birthday show! I had been stubbed down to front row Trey, Solidly into a rattle snake egg when that cover popped up. I went from overdrive back to reality check pretty quickly. Tuesday's Gone o.k. get over it already. I had to jog some around lot before I could form sentences again. Good Times!

Although I won't say it was my favorite, it could still be mentioned in this thread:

I believe that is 6/22/94, but I am not fully understanding why it was "appropriate" at the time it was played.

This is more of a musical "appropriateness" than one related to venue or location, but the Carini (which is a song I'm really not that into) from Toyota Park last summer couldn't have been placed in a more perfect location. There was just a lot of energy building up to it and it felt great. That was the first time I was ever excited to hear that song.

- Let It Be over the PA after 10/7/00

- I've Been Around on 11/27/09 after they had walked off stage during Coil. "Where ya' been, Page?"

- How High the Moon on 8/13/09, the day of Les Paul's passing

- First Tube after Tube on 6/7/09. "Well I guess we might as well play this one now."

- Divded Sky opener at Red Rocks '93

- Island Tour Carini

...and eventually, 2001 from the moon set in 2011 :ugeek:
