06/21/09 Alpine Valley Music Theatre - East Troy, WI

1: Brother*, Wolfman's Brother, Funky Bitch** > The Divided Sky, Joy, Back On The Train, Taste, Poor Heart, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday > Avenu Malkenu The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday^^, Time Turns Elastic

2: Crosseyed and Painless*** > Down With Disease > Bug > Piper^ -> Wading In The Velvet Sea, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Slave To The Traffic Light

E: Grind, Frankenstein^&^

Notes: * with all of the band member's children (who've occasionally been at the rear left corner of the state, e.g. at Hampton) in a bathtub in front of the stage. ** played at the request of a fan who held up a sign for the whole first show and much of the first set of the second. Instead of Trey taking a solo after the last verse, the song was ended (Page took his normal solo). *** features a brief, subtle quote by Page from Grateful Dead's Let It Grow. ^ Prior to Funky Bitch, Trey said they were "so happy to be here." He had a guy turn around with a Phunky Bitch sign (the other side saying Sneaking Sally) and said "This guy's been holding this the last two days; his arms must be tired." ^^ first reprise since 7/4/00 (110 shows). ^^^ with Page on keytar, previously seen at Hampton, and Trey on a five-necked guitar he received as a gift from the band after Page found it in a vintage instrument store in St. Louis, MO.

Tonight's show is celebrated by a $1,000 grant to the East Troy Schools Music Boosters from the Mockingbird Foundation.

06-21 Alpine Valley Music Theatre

Postby lawnboy357 » Wed Sep 09, 2009 1:29 am

I cried for Brother. I was thrilled for Wolfman's. I cried again during Divided. I guess I was overwhelmed by a sense of epicness. I was all out of tears during Avenu>TMWSIY>Avenu. Thank you Phish!!! Joy was a treat. Crosseyed>Piper was awesome! Boogie was a good 1. Pure showmanship for the encore!!! Great end to the 1st leg!! We were well positioned in the front of the lawn. It sounded and looked better than the night before.

I only went to Saturday night's show, but I listened to this one again yesterday and that Piper is very good. It was very well executed spaciness without losing the glue of the song, which I felt about a lot of their spacey jams from last year did (especially in June). What it lacks in length it makes up for in content (tee hee). One of my favorite jams from last June to me. It now rivals the Camden Sand.

Silly bouncing joke. I should have said Sparkle. I'm aware that these were not played there but you can't edit this for some reason. I was an emotional wreck at this one. It made bringing my son little Alexcito to DC, Alpine 1 and 2 so worth it.

This was my first show after the break up. I can't believe I never posted about this show, and now that 9 years have passed, I can't say that I remember too much about it other than the fact my eyes teared up during Divided Sky (for 5 years I honestly believed that I would never get to see a live Divided Sky) and TMWSIY. It took me the entire first set to get my shit together, and then the second set was a straight up party.
Well, here we are, Mr. Pilgrim, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why.

Not sure I have laughed more than I have at the image of those three during the encore.
