12-02-99 The Palace, Auburn Hills, MI

1: Runaway Jim, Farmhouse*, Heavy Things, Roggae, Run Like an Antelope, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Poor Heart, Sample in a Jar, Free, The Squirming Coil (1:18)

2: Boogie On Reggae Woman, Gotta Jiboo, Bathtub Gin** -> Also Sprach Zarathustra, You Enjoy Myself*** -> Little Drummer Boy# (1:19)

E: Bold as Love (0:06)

*With slightly different vocal arrangement (refrain at end). **Unfinished; with "Also Sprach Zarathustra" teases. ***With silent jam. #Basically part of the vocal jam, which ended with Fish alone onstage, standing behind his drums, singing "Little Drummer Boy" (possibly with "vulgar variations" such as "I want to make love to you, ba rum ba rum ba bum bum").

Sweet mother of mercy! 10 years!

This show is EPIC! I wasn't there, of course, but it's one of my "go to" shows and it's in my top-5 for 1999!

Wow, I feel old.

This was my senior year of highschool.

Fungus amoung us at the show, along with a bunch of kids that I went to school with and was not accustomed to seeing at shows. Freaked me out a bit.

GREAT tour opener!!

The Eb>F>Gm jam Mike starts up right after the organ solo is magic. when they start vocalizing over it it gets even better. killer show, killer yem... its oswego, hampton, and this yem in the top 3 for the year for me.

One of the best tour openers ever. Well done. Anyone see that dude go flying over the top rail?

Yes dude, I recall being super freaked out by Ramos while quite spun out!

This was also the show that Haataja freaked out at and woke up in the hospital next to the guy who jumped off the balcony.

I thought the show itself was really good, but I had more fun in Cincy the next two nights.

^Nevermind..didn't read the post above me. I'm assuming he didn't if the guy was in the hospital. At least I hope not.

Damn I wish you could edit in this sub-forum.

just listened to the YEM for the first time in ages.

does anyone know if that jam outta the trampolines is a tease of something? its just unexpected for a YEM jam and its so cohesive, it really feels like it, but i sure can't place it.

either way, amazing memories. runaway jim opener was the only song call i've pulled off in 17 years of phish!

Looks like some reviews on phish.net are saying it's the bassline to Alice Cooper's I'm 18.

that's awesome, thanks. its got that slow burn 99 thing going so its not instantly obvious but really cool.

the palace is designed to be loud, so i don't know if the crowd energy is just being amplified but its always been great at palace shows. besides the epic closing trio, i recommend a few from the first set as well:

Runway Jim - probably mostly so you can get the sense of how energized the place is but a little jam
Farmhouse - must hear version for such a different approach to the song
Free - almost 12 minutes, first some mike bombs, then through several phases of a dirge-y funk jam

i'd also like to thank whomever is responsible for pulling my PTBM order for this show because this was the best i could ever imagine

Absolutely LOVE this show...was there right on the floor and it was sick...second set was unbelievable.

Loved the Free...ultra funky.
Coil - My first Coil. SO good as a first set closer.
2001 - Probably THE best glowstick war I've ever seen...the things were everywhere...it'll never be better. My buddy Dave accidentally tossed one and nailed Page's piano...made a nice sound too. I reminded him that it may be best to throw them backwards.
Bathtub Gin - I still say it's the best Gin ever...but I'm highly biased. Gin fans should listen.
YEM - The most unusual YEM I've ever heard and I love it. To me, the jam started as "18" by Cooper but I felt it turned into a "Let it Grow"-ish jam. Gets better as the band realizes they have something cool and they just roll with it and add on new parts like the singing.
