I guess Jack White's doing a pretty cool vinyl for his new album and talked about it with Fallon. Pretty neat stuff...you can even play a hidden song if you start playing it on the logo.

Zeppelin records were always pretty cool. The Zeppelin III album was always fun to play with.

The angel hologram thing on the Jack White record is by far the coolest thing about it. I kind of want to see that in person though I have no interest in actually hearing the album.

Here's a longer video of Jack going over the features of it with a more technical view of how they did it. The hologram is around the 6:20 minute mark...looks kinda like some ballerina spinning in a circle in a way.

Been waiting months for this to finally be released on vinyl. So many good tracks on this one. Will be the best rap album of the year, no contest.

The Jack White LP is alot of fun! The hologram is pretty sick once I could see it (had to use a flashlight).

Fuego has been delivered. I went home during lunch to put it inside so it wouldn't get fucked up in the heat. Looks like there is nothing on side "D," but you never know.

Can't wait to spin it tonight!

Dude, I should have gotten the whole package. I forgot that I have a CD player in the car, and I'm really starting to be able to hear a difference, regularly, between vinyl, CD, and mp3 . . .

Turns out my whining was premature. My CD was waiting for me when I got home. Like the neat little Fuego matchbook that comes with it too. Haven't been able to listen yet.

New Yes album is out today ... but I can't decide whether to get the vinyl, because I have to order it from outside the U.S., and it looks like about $42, last I checked. It's a two record set but only like 53 minutes or something. And it's getting very mixed reviews besides. But I kinda don't wanna get the CD, or pay a lot for the record, only to see an eventual US vinyl issued later on. More likely though, it won't get pressed again, and it'll be rare & expensive real fast - and I'll regret hesitating.
Hmm.

Most records I buy are .50 cents to 5 dollars. Therefore, I don't mind too much when I gotta shell out the extra cash for something new and shiny. I also inherited a good chunk of stuff. At least, that's how I try to rationalize the spending, lolz.

Picked up a these:
random Django Reinhardt
collection of British Sea Shanties
collection of old Civil War tunes
Stravinsky's Right of Spring
David Grisman with Stephan Grappelli, live

All under $15, woop! This is why I can afford Picture of Nectar.

Re: Vinyl?

I've been doing the vinyl thing for a few months shy of a year now, and I'm still trying to understand a lot things. Mainly the difference in what's being re-issued and what is original- and what that means in terms of sound quality and price. For example, I just checked out Uncle Tupelo's No Depression on discogs and there's about a 17 dollar difference between the one released in 1990 and the 180 gram reissue from 2012. The reissue was also released under a different label. In this sort of situation, is there reason for me to believe that the reissue is of lesser sound quality than the originals being sold for a few bucks more? Or are people just paying more for the original simply because it's an original?

I've also heard a lot about reissues being digital recordings pressed to vinyl. I think it's really lame that there's no clear cut advertising stating one way or another. This is something else I'm not really sure how to discern when shopping for vinyl. I know all the old stuff is recorded in analog format, but I wish there was a way to know for sure with the new releases and reissues.

also saw nugfin quote this, referring to the new Phish release "Recorded on 24-track digital, mixed down to analog for your vinyl enjoyment."

I have no idea what "mixed down to analog" means, kinda sounds like a load of shit...but I have no idea.
