I just signed up for my first tourney ever. I've only ever played casual singles rounds, basically. It's about time.

Also buying the last two available bag tags for my favorite course, for my brother and me.

Who needs drugs, sex, pizza, rock and roll, coffee and vinyl records when there's disc golf?

ME!!

Played 45 holes. First nine was like, nine leftover holes from the old Buffumville layout. I shot like crap. All day, actually, very inconsistently for me too. Makes me want to play again.

One of the holes in their new layout has changed, and the new teebox is real challenging. I went OB three times in a row, racked up a nine on that hole. Looks like I need to work on that one.

Anyone have course tags? My brother and I bought some at the end of December, thinking it'd make it more competitive and perhaps get us playing with some other course regulars in 2012.

About five or six games into the new year, we realize that a) he's the better player, so he'll basically almost always have the lower #'d tag, and b) we still don't know hardly anyone else with a tag.
Lolz!

Oh well. I'm in a slump right now, forgot how to do this.

I have two course tags... my main course I am in the 20s or something out of around 100 or so. The other course I am like high 40s out of maybe 60. So.... yeah.

Oh yeah, that's the other funny part. We have 92 & 94 out of 101. At least those are two of my favorite Phish years.

Not my PB, but the best I've played in like a year. Follows a slump too, stok'd. 8-)

Played yesterday, and it was incredibly hot. This is also the closest I have ever lived to a disc golf course, 3 blocks. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=1517

Met two dudes at night three of SPAC who were practicing their short game. They were named Tim and ? They were super chill and had been seeing phish for a while, like a lot of you guys.

I didn't ask them if they were OKP'ers, so just in case, I thought I'd throw it out there! (see what I did there?)

^heh

^^Awesome to have a nearby course!

I played twice this weekend, my game is improving. I bought a Star Roadrunner, and finally I have a disc that S-curves for distance. I threw a 310' shot, which is pretty far for me. Unfortunately I missed the 20' birdie putt. Time to get back to putting practice.

I love that I've actually improved so much at this game since I started. I'm one of the least athletic people I know. Over the past four years I've shaved like 25 strokes off my average round, very gradually. Still, aiming for shit is just plain awkward for me. I play a little drums but not terribly well, maybe it's the aim thing.

Love the game too much though; I'm kind of compulsive I think, or obsessive, or both, and maybe disordered too. So I play more disc golf than I should, and I do less of everything else as a result.

^ Nice, I just checked out pictures of that course and it looks difficult.

Have you ever played Borderlands State Park? That is the only course I have played in MA, but it was awesome.

That's hole 17! Great pic! I haven't been to that course in a while, but it's the only course I can get my band mates to, since they're all in Boston. Is that you in the picture teeing off?

Webster's really not that hard, and I was really on fire. All my putts seemed to go in, got lucky bounces the few times I did hit trees, and didn't lose any discs. Saturday morning I shot a 65 at the same course, but i think that's my worst score for this place. It's a brand new course, only been there since April.

Right now I think I need to take some time off from it before I fail to accomplish anything else in my life ever again. Seriously, I've been throwing a ton of plastic this summer.

Yep, that is me. My sister used to live just south of boston, so in 2010 I flew out to visit her, caught a Phish show (6.22.10,) and played that course. It is very different from Chicagoland / Southern Wisconsin courses, which are all prairie style.

Margaret, which is what I call West Thompson Lake (after Larry's ex wife in Throw Momma From the Train), is a right bitch in the summer. No two ways about it. I tend to convince myself it's not so bad. How bad can it be?

There's a new course that's slightly closer to me, and it's entirely in the shade I believe. It's a pay-to-play, but worth it. I've been visiting that one so much that I've decided to buy a 1-year membership since it'll be cheaper. So as I've gotten more and more comfy with the new place (no nickname yet; it's called Webster Fish & Game), Ol' Margaret's been kinda neglected.

So I visited yesterday. Lost a disc. My son lost a disc; his favorite of course. My friend Tom lost a disc. I had to apply bug spray (three times!) which I rarely even use ... and thorn bushes don't help the case either. Shot a 63, which I guess is +7 if you go by par.

Anyway I don't mind if I avoid the place for another month or two. That was brutal. I'm not sure I even had fun, ever leave the course wondering that?

Most likely I'll get away with a round or two this weekend.

^ Do you have to pay for the majority of your courses? Or is this a "park fee"?

I've never had to pay a dime to play anywhere in Ohio, but in a lot of other places, especially Michigan, there is a fee just to enter a park whether you plan on discing or just going for a walk. Found that interesting...

Seems the public parks are mostly free, and the private ones are pay to play. Morley Field in San Diego, first course I ever played, is $2.50 per round, $3 on the weekends.

Of the courses I can get to in an hour (all are MA, except *CT & **RI):

West Thompson Lake*: free
Webster Fish & Game: $5 round/$10 all day
Buffumville Dam: free
Hodges Village Dam: free
Borderland: $2 to park
Hyland Brewery: $5/round
Charlton Woods: $5
Pyramids: $6/round; $10 all day
Maple Hill: $5 (or 6 - haven't been in a while)
Normandy Farms: $10 (or 8 maybe? i've never been)
Ninigret**: free but I vowed to ne'er return

Yowza. I couldn't imagine having to pay like that. It would make it a lot harder to just walk away when having a bad round.
