New Page McConnell album - 6/25 release

Postby gamecat » Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:22 pm

per Jambase:

Phish keyboardist Page McConnell unveiled a new instrumental album called Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made as a special Record Store Day release. The LP was released as a limited-edition vinyl edition that quickly sold out on Record Store Day and was unavailable in any other form...until next week. Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made will get a full digital release on Tuesday, June 25.

You'll be able to purchase the LP via LivePhish.com, iTunes and other digital outlets starting on the 25th and it will also be available for streaming on many subscription services such as Spotify and Rhapsody. Sirius XM's Jam_ON will offer a special preview of Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made on Sunday, June 23, at 10 a.m. ET with a replay set for Monday, June 24, at 9 p.m. ET.

For this album, McConnell put together the impressive ensemble of bassist Reed Mathis, guitarist Adam Zimmon and drummer Gabe Jarrett to join him in recording instrumental tracks. The record was engineered and mixed by John Siket and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. Head to PageMcConnell.com's Listening Page to sample "The Lemon Drop" from Unsung Cities and Movies Never Made.

^yowch.

I spin the Vida Blue album once in a while, it's okay. Sounds groovy, just not that crazy on the tunes themsevles.

Haven't heard the solo album though.

Is anyone annoyed that it's getting a full digital release after thinking the vinyl was gonna be it? Just wondering.

The second Vida Blue album is a big, four song jam session. Pretty sweet stuff.

I liked his solo album, but it wasn't as strong as Trey's or Mike's output. Then again it was his first attempt.

I'm a little annoyed that they're releasing it after saying it would ONLY be on vinyl. But I'm glad they're releasing it because I really enjoy it. I think we need more instrumental albums, and if Page were as prolific as Trey in his output, we'd have a lot of great music on our hands.
