Question.

Record Label says: Rubber Jungle Records ?

Is this his or what? Never heard of Rubber Jungle

I kinda like the way his voice sounds by the way.

"Trey Anastasio" is a must have!

agreed. i love that album. it's actually good, which is also why TAB was SO much better than 70VP, the material that is played helps. that and the horns!!!

bout to go on myspace and give this all a listen... i'll be back with my take...

edit: it won't play right now for me, seems like it won't load correctly on myspace or something. lame.

Yeah...it doesn't make nearly as much sense as Wash Ufizze Drive me to Firenze (sp?) or David Bowie, UB40...

when have Trey's lyrics ever made any sense?

Do you think around the 2:50 minute mark to the end on Dragonfly (on MySpace) is that fishman on vacuum. Turn it up loud. It sounds like it. What do you think?

Its difinitely not. Its a vocal harmony. It sounds obvious to me, maybe others will think different, but I'm absolutely positive its not vacuum.

Bar 17 on Trey's MySpace

Postby gregradiohead » Sat Sep 23, 2006 1:16 am

I can see myself possibly buying this album, though I get the distinct feeling I will like only about half of it. But anything is a step up from 'Shine' at this point.
Here's my problem with most of Trey's new music: it sounds sentimental and maudlin. It's kind of like the Paul McCartney syndrome: inside of the Beatles, Paul had 3 other voices to reign in his crap songs from his good. I can't think of a Paul written Beatles song that I outright hate, yet a lot of his solo stuff has tons of filler and absolute dreck. Same with Trey post-Phish. I personally think 'Shine' was an embarassment of an album and was not Trey at all. At the most, it was a side of him that I don't so much hate but feel sorry for--the part of him that wants to be a STAR in some capacity...
Whether you want to accept it or not, Trey is not like Jerry. I love Jerry's voice just as much as his guitar playing and songwriting. Trey, however...I can see why his voice would turn people off.
Look I don't know where I'm going with this, other than that Trey's best stuff has always come when he's worked with equals.

Don't feel sorry for Trey man...he's doing pretty well. Making music that he wants to make and having a great time doing it. He's got what seems like a good family life and he's not too terribly fucked on drugs anymore...Someone wanting to be successful in aspects of his/her life/career that they previously weren't is no reason to pity that person...I feel way more sorry for people who are too hung up on what Trey did and don't want to see him move forward...their the ones that are going to be let down. Just be happy for him and listen, because he has many great years left in him, and if you just get hung up on his past, you won't able to enjoy what he is bringing to the world still.

yea i think whatever trey continues to do is a huge upgrade from the 'drugged up' trey,

honestly i gave shine another go the other day, and while i dont think its the trey i love, its not bad at all, good song writing, etc.

what im really hoping for is a solid album in bar 17, im positive im gonna like it, anyway trey can piss in my ears and i would not give a shit

Bar 17 on Trey's MySpace

Postby gregradiohead » Sat Sep 23, 2006 4:54 am

I never said I'm not happy that Trey is sober, healthy, and making the kind of music he wants to make. I feel sorry for him because the kind of music he has made post-Coventry is not just a step down from Phish but a step down from TAB.
I concede that GRAB was good and I haven't heard Bar 17 yet in its entirety, but this isn't a matter of not being able to let old things go. Hell, we had a whole thread about how I never saw Phish, so I've never had anything to hold unto anyway. I don't have this whole childlike inability to not let Phish go because I never 'had' Phish. The truth as I see it is that the music Trey is making now is watered down crap and I don't understand how he can listen to it and think it's remotely satisfying. I respect that artists change and follow their muse, but you can only give someone so much of a leash before it turns into a noose. I realize this sounds like a fan demanding too much or being a brat, but I guess I'm not used to artists changing and growing in ways I perceive as 'wrong' for lack of a better term....

i love that trey went with some simple singer/songwriter stuff. i mean, why not? i like the deeper side, hearing what he has to say. it's not the most EXCITING stuff ever, but the guy has 20 years of stuff to tell us about. i'm all ears.

that being said, i'm super pumped about his return to the ROCK! ; )

^^ I still stand by what I said. There is no need to pity Trey...I just feel bad for those people who don't like Trey's new stuff...you think it watered down, fine, but like you say you weren't there to enjoy Phish in the first place (nor was I), so maybe you wouldn't have liked them at the time either. In fact you didn't...so like I say...I feel sorry for those who don't like Trey's new stuff, because looking back on it, you are going to wish that you would have gone and seen Trey on this tour...and I am too. Unfortunately I don't have the means of travel or financial resources to make it happen...I can't believe any of you that could possibly afford to go to a show aren't going...

sorry for rambling...I'm saturday afternoon drunkj...

I understand what you're saying Greg...I just completely disagree.

I doubt I will ever regret not seeing Trey on his solo tours post-Phish. This doesn't mean GRAB, I mean his 70 Volt Parade dreck. If I ever listen to Shine someday and think it's good music I will know I've lost it and jump off a cliff.

With Trey shows, you take the good with the bad

Some moments are great but of course there's a lot of somewhat lame lyrics and poppy stuff

when you are in the same room w/ Ernest the 3rd, you feel a charge. i don't care what material he's concentrating on, there WILL be a moment (or many) that takes you somewhere you wouldn't be able to go if you weren't in that room. always worth it to me.
