MIKE SAYS YES TO CHESS

OKP chess move.

MIKE SAYS YES TO CHESS

^ Well I have an idea about the 80 individual threads, we can have one, poll, make the move.

Then comment about the move and strategies for the next move in that thread.

Start a new poll with the choices for moves.

Have one of us with admin powers delete the old thread completely.

This seems reasonable to me, anybody else?

i think it would be easier and more personal for each person to decide how/where they are going to make their move...thats what i would want to do....its not like we absolutely have to beat him...i'm just pumped to be doing it period

I think polls are the way to go. New thread for each, number them, delete the ond one.

If we leave it up to people, then that one person would be responsible for a bad move. If we take a poll, someone is bad to figure out if something is a bad move.

i am torn between the polls and individual moves, ya pols would be good to giv everyone a say

BUT IT WOULD BE FUCKING AWSOME IF I COULD SAY I PUT MIKE INTO CHECK!

for the sake of the OKP and not everyone getting to play if its 1 person per move, then i suggest polls, i can still be like i played mike in chess if i helped make decisions based on pols!

How about this??

The player gets to choose his "move format"...Eventually i'll have a list of people playing and each person can decide whether they want to do it themselves or if they want a poll to help them out if they are not sure...that way even if the people wanting to do it themselves get into a fix they can ask for help with a poll

Any good?

Sounds reasonable to me.

One bad side to 'individual moves' in my mind. If a person makes a "bad" move, is s/he going to be tarred and feathered? That is the one thing I do not want to see happen to anybody.

sounds reasonable.

and as far as the 'bad move' thing goes... i don't think anyone's that concerned about winning/losing... at least i would hope not. (maybe if it was on the PT... but this is the okp!) anyway, its more for the fun of the game/interaction. (btw, there's a comment section to gameknot so we can talk shit to mike while we play!)

i will say that exciting is an understatement. great work and shots for those who got this rolling.\_/\_/\_/ it's been eons since i have played chess and can't wait to hit the books and sharpen my dull skills. the polls are a great idea. would it be a strategy thread and then a poll thread to correspond? or just one. anywho. thanks for making this board even more addicting than it already is. don't be surprised if my wife puts me on that intervention show. and finally. mike said yes. to us. i feel like a kid in a candy shop. there should be a big dance number playing for all of us to get down. thanks again.

welp, i just played Bigdudenthedoorway and he kicked my ass every which way to Sunday. He gets my vote of confidence if we end up having to pick individual people.

I like the idea of polling the moves as it would truly be the Oh Kee Pa against Mike and it's a good way to get everyone and anyone involved. Let's poll what we should do... okay, maybe not, but either way, this is amazing

I agree with apocalypse, it would be best to do the polls so it would get as many people involved that want to be involved. This is pretty cool, I'm glad that everyone is so cool and inclusive about this whole chess idea, looking forward to definite details!

MIKE SAYS YES TO CHESS

personally i don't see why we all wouldn't get a turn. there's really not more than 100 people who post... maybe cleet has the stats but if less than 100 people sign up we'd be fine. because really we'll have to challange him to two games... one black, one white. but if its not the case that everyone who wants to play gets a turn, i can understand the dissent.

if all out polling is what people to do, right on. we can chew on the different options for a bit and then take a poll to decide the format. so if you have other ideas toss em out there.

hey here's a thought... we could do a list to see who creates the options for each poll... everyone who wants in gets a turn to pick the polling moves... thoughts?

oh and for the folks who get drawn to the oh kee pa as a result of the game... just remember to keep it breezey. dig safe friends.

i think it would be cool if i had my own individual move against mike and then i would probably use a pole to help w/my move.

bottom line: i just want to be able to say that i played mike gordon in chess ;D

MIKE SAYS YES TO CHESS

Postby clevelandphishguy » Sat Jan 28, 2006 9:19 pm

In my opinion (I know, only a newb to you guysandgirls, but I have any extensive chess backround) polls are probably the only way to ensure everyone gets involved. I've seen chess matches between very good players end in less that 20 moves because of one fatal move that someone couldn't recover from. If the admins of this board want to get everybody that wants involved, polling is the only guarantee. Mike might blow us out in 10 moves (he is a genius!!)

Anyways...if it was up to me, I'd just let the Admins/Goderators of this board play him alone on behalf of the OKP. They are the reason the OKP exists and is the SHIT!!!!!!!!

I don't know if any of you were even around when the band played the audience. The fact of the matter is that we all can't make individual moves. It just won't work. If anyone with half of an idea of what the game of chess is, is strategy. If you have 20 different people making the moves your going to screw things up for everyone. You make a move that will pay off 5 moves later. That's how the game works.
At the shows everyone met and discussed the move, made suggestions and then sent a representative up to make the official move. The only way this will work is either in a chat room where everyone makes suggestions and then a final move is picked or with a poll about what you think the move should be. Yeah everyone wants to play Mike but sorry this is about the Oh kee, NOT YOU. Get over it. This should be a fun way for us as a community to bond and to share in this unbelievable event.

"But I want to play Mike" sounds pretty selfish to me.
I believe he said I will play the Oh kee Pa, not I will play "insert name".

If we all stick together, we all can be part of this and all enjoy in this pretty cool event. I think those who actually put this in motion should be our representatives making the moves, but I think we all should have a say in the moves, that way we all can say we played mike.

lets keep it cool folks... people are just throwing out ideas and/or desires... we'll vote on a final format. no need to steer this into hostile territory.

lets all just be like 900 little fonzies... and what is fonzie?
