Instructions/Logistics for Chat, Voting, and Viewing Game:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*as per mike's request, the game will now take place at pogo.com - you will need an account to view the game. there is a link to the registration page and instructions on viewing the game below. sorry for the last minute changes. i think if we stick to our gameplan with the chat, it should work fine. thanks, zoot
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mike v. OKP Chess Match will take place Monday (4/17) @ 9pm EST. The venue has been moved to pogo.com... see "viewing" instructions for details.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movers/Shakers:
- moves committee: bigdude, astral, zoot
- primary moderator/liaison: iccullus
- secondary moderator: willbreathes
- team okp: all members in okp 'main room' chat
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rules for 'Main Room' Chat:
- free chat until singal (whip sound effect)
- when moderator gives the signal all talking must stop
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Voting:
- the liaison will relay three move options** created by the committee
- move options will be presented in 'full algebraic' form (very basic; see explaination below)
- each move will be assigned a number... ie.(1. e2-e4) (2. g1-f3) (3. f1-b5)
- votes will be cast by simply entering the number of the move you prefer
- members will have 60 seconds to vote once the options have been presented
- moderators will count the votes and confirm winner
- a moderator will give the signal to resume 'free chat' and liaison relay winning move to the committee

*in order to set up our initial strategy and get the game moving, the moves committee will make the first three moves of the match. subsequent moves will be voted upon by okp members in the main chat room.
**positioning may limit the # of available moves
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Move Notation:
- moves will be relayed using "full algebraic" notation
- full algebraic uses solely letter/number grid of the board to communicate moves*
- the first letter/number combination identifies the starting square of the piece to be moved
- the second letter/number combination identifies the poition that piece is moving to
- here's an example:
on the board, the last move made by black would be written as follows: c7-c5. The pawn on square c7 has moved two spaces to c5 to threaten white's knight.

Image

*the one exception to this form is made when "castling". castling is writen as O-O.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Viewing the Game:
- the game will take place at pogo.com; to view the game you will need to set up a an account
- here's a link to the registration page:
http://www.pogo.com/action/pogo/lightregview.do?sls=2&site=pogo

- once you are registered, add "okpchess" to your "friends list"
- your friends list will then give you the location of our table
- after you find the table simply push the "watch" button to view the game
- there is a chat at the bottom of the board. i don't see any problem with people saying a quick hello to mike, but please don't abuse this function. (use the okp chat as your main communication with eachother)
- any extremely negative comments directed toward mike will result in you being kicked and banned from the table.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mike v. OKP Chess Match will take place Monday (4/17)... exact time TBA. Check back for updates.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
thanks everyone! if you have any questions/concerns just let me know. zoot

it's where your rook and king swap places.

this chess thing with mike should make national news. i mean think about it. a member of one of the biggest touring bands in american music history is sitting down to play chess against a message board. the power of the internet! yes, i'm probably still drunk.

sorry no update on the gametime yet... i guess people are going to have to check in tomorrow afternoon for the exact time. i did fill in the secondary moderator (willb) and the chat signal ("whip" sound effect - icc requested this one specifically to reign in you unrully bastards).

also, just occured to me that it might be cool if everyone tuned into livephish radio during the game so that we're all jammin to the same soundtrack.

aight so we just got an email from betty. I'm only posting it so that you all can see it ASAP

Hi Zack,
Mike will be able to play tomorrow night at 9pm (Monday, April 17th) via
Pogo games, not Yahoo.
Please set up an account over there and let us know the group's screen
name..
Thanks

so i dont know how pogo games works...the website is pogo.com i already set up an account, which is once again "okpchess"

the game starts at 9pm. hopefully zoot will read this or hte email and know what to do. cuz i have no idea if you can view games on pogo or how to, it looks rather confusing to me. IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW POGO WORKS PLEASE RESPOND AND GIVE A DESCRIPTION OF HOW PEOPLE CAN WATCH OR HOW WE CAN REEQUEST A GAME W/ A PERSON (MIKE)?

thanks famus... i'll mess around with it before i crash tonight... hopefully its similar to yahoo. i'll let you guys know.

edit: ok i've updated the viewing instructions above... i've posted a link so that people can create an account. once you've logged in it should be pretty easy for people to find the game... just follow the steps above.

please take a minute to review the logistics before you head into the game/chat tomorrow. thanks -zhr

Postby Clark W. Griswold » Mon Apr 17, 2006 5:47 pm

Just want to also thank those who got this together! This is gonna be the shite! Looks like I'm gonna have to end practice early tonight, or hope for more rain! I can't miss this! I think I'm all registered on the pogo.com site, although it says that it's not in a game room or somethin' like that. Anyone want to enlighten a computer-illiterate person as to whether or not I'm good to go?
Again, mass kudos to Zoot and the rest of the OKP for making this happen!
We passed a goddamn gas station every 10 yards for 1000 miles, but when you really need one, you end up walking your ass off. This is no way to run a desert!

after doing some research on pogo.com here's the steps for viewing hte game:

- once you are registered, add "okpchess" to your "friends list"
- once you have added the okp account your friends list will give you the location of our table
- when you have located the table simply push the "watch" button to view the game
- there is a chat at the bottom of the board. i don't see any problem with people saying a quick hello to mike, but please don't abuse this function. (use the okp chat as your main communication with eachother)
- any extremely negative comments directed toward mike will result in you being kicked and banned from the table.

***edit: i didnt see that zoot had alreayd posted instructions on how to watch, and since they were more specific and seasier to follow than mine, i changed mine to basically copy his instructions***

just wanted to bump this so people remember to read through the rules and logistics before jumping into the chat/game. when you're in the chat, if you hear icculus crack that whip (literally) all talking needs to stop... in order to get your input into the moves and keep the game moving at a good pace people are gonna have to stay on the ball. cool. alright fellas... game on.

Image

i'll post the table info here later but you can always use the "friends" function as mentioned in the instructions to find the okpchess account.

here's the latest... i'll post the final info at the top of the hour.

Hi Zack,

We will allow an "audience" for the game. For now, we are going to leave
the chat filter open for a quick "hellos" and we trust that the Oh Kee
Pah folks will be respectful of the situation. It sounds like you've got
a great group of folks, so we are not worried.

I will be in touch via email again at 8:50pm EST so that I can let you
know what room Mike will be in, etc.

Sound good?
Betty

remember to check the main post for info. thanks, zoot
