Agreed, because my life will be in ruins if my pursuit of 20,000 posts on an internet message board about a band half the country's never heard of is halted.

^also agreed.

I'm not sure i understand what the motivation is here. I know i haven't been around much lately but is everything going terribly wrong here? Because it looks alright to me.

But, if there's something i don't know and somebody knows better than i guess that's better. I could go either way on this, but i actually really like this setup.

and the only threads that have randomly been partially deleted were over 100 pages....how many of those do we have? and the ones that we do have are whimsical satirical care-free conversations about our lives...we don't need to archive them...

I'm with Hank.

I know this site technically belongs to Ian - and no disrespect to him or the other admins - but the OKP community belongs to all of us. I hope us peons will have some kind of say in this if it turns out we'll lose stuff from the site.

I guess I also don't see the disadvantages to ProBoards or the advantages inherent in PhpBB, and I'm familiar with both. Is this just something that will primarily make the admins' jobs easier? Cuz from where this peon is standing, nothing's really broken. Why fix it?

I know this is presumptuous coming from a newbie like myself, but if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm an arrogant jerk. Er, wait... I mean "IM NOT HATIN, IM JUST REAL YALL" (Or does that only work when Kanye does it?)

Mr. Macphisto wrote:Why though? Why move and lose everything (possibly)? We can do everything we need right here. The only reason we were thinking of restarting OKP (possibly) a while back was because Ian was gone for forever and we were left with no progressive powers, just ones for maintaining. But now we have the power to do things like BracketBusters and Individual Show boards. There is little need for anything else IMO, except a code here and there.

Again...I agree. This is the most valid arguement against this "change".

When may this occur? Trying to figure out if I should finish up '93 and the other years, or just wait if it is a couple days from now.

i left a pair of my old socks, way back in 06 sometime, i think i miss placed them in the ??a thread... i think the fumes are finally getting to Ian... it was only a matter of time before the smell got so toxic we all have to leave and seek refuge elsewhere

I do kind of like our "old school" look/feel to proboards

nothing is wrong funky.. so much as a new board would have new features and stuff... seems more of an upgrade in regards of ease of admin tasks as well as allowing users some more fancy gizmo's gazmo's of which I don't really care about

i'm not a mod so I can't speak for the level of difficulty it is to do mod like tasks

I bet if the move happens smoothly we're all gonna love it. There are times when I wish this board had features that other boards often have. Like, a link to a list of recent threads (collapsed) ... also some forums have an icon indicating you've posted in a given thread, and if you click it, it takes you to your last post in that thread. Stuff like that.

The point is, when we make the move we will have a bounty of new features to use, a more customizable board, better admin capabilites and much much more.

These are all things I've always wanted for the Pa but have either been fiddly to implement or simply impossible with ProBoards.

I am trying to make this as smooth as possible for everyone, I certainly don't intend to piss anyone off and at this point can't see how this can be anything but a good move for us.

Trust me.

As for your question Will, I am hoping to get this going in the next couple of days. I have been working on it all day today. The individual show boards look fantastic, it's a great idea so let me say a big thanks for putting the effort in! :)

I imagine it will still be ohkeepa.com, because that is just a re-direct URL to ohkeepa.proboards.com.

And cheers, Ian!

I haven't been around long enough to be too attached one way or another, but I do trust that this move will be positive (assuming we don't lose everything, which would totally suck). I've always felt this board software was a little primitive compared to other boards I frequent-- not that it mattered that much, but I can see where more features and better admin/mod capabilities could make for an even better experience here on the Pa.

Hope it goes smoothly!

Alright, obviously it's happening whether we like it or not so I guess we might as well get on board with the idea. Like Neil said, it's not the end of the world, even if the worst happens and every OKP thread disappears into the void.

I've only been here 4 months so I don't really care if I lose posts or whatever. Just seems tacky to spring this on everyone and tell them "just trust me" if anyone disagrees. ::)
