I’m not gonna get all long-winded and detailed, haven’t re-listened to it yet so just going off memory. Really strong show, good setlist with only two hiccups.

First set started out nice and rockin’ - Trey was really into it with knee bends and dancing; Mike was on fire as usual. The extended outro to Roses was nice, exploratory (almost thought they were trying something new). Theme was good, but they always seem to get lost somewhere whenever they do it. Axilla was smokin, that song is just too short. Julius and Bouncing are getting old for me so it was a good piss break. Maze and Gin were perfect and a nice way to close out the set (Page went fucking nuts on Gin).

Second set was just dominated by Mike - he was loud and thumping the whole way thru. The segue from Sand>Nellie (as odd as that combo looks on paper) was just as smooth as it could get. Thought we were getting a Hydrogen but surprised everyone with Makisupa and then a very nice intro to Weekapaug. And then came the brick wall Wading. The set was going so nice; whoever decided to throw that in there was an idiot. 2001>Zero was solid, high-paced and they redeemed themselves nicely.

Can’t go wrong with the oh kee pa>suzy. Nice finish to a very good show.

So far what i’ve listened to is great. This summer is gonna be special! 2001 was the straight funk, extended Roses FINALLY! Great gin great DWD great Mikes Groove. over all sounding great.

fuckin A they sound great!

That whole first set is air tight, high energy with that great one-after-another transition attack like its 94 up in this biatch! DWD>Sand>Nellie is money as well.

Can’t wait for couch tour on Sunday!

Just got back to Chicago. WOW! What a great weekend. This show was front to back FIRE! Loved the second ever Free opener. That song is just a great opener–I have always wanted that to become a consistent opener.

If I am not mistaken, there was a lyrical flub in Gin–haven’t relistened yet. Somewhere Trey says “take it Leo” or something. Gotta check it out again. I really thought Wading was gonna be a Page walk off and a long encore, BUT NO–they came out and absolutely SLAYED 2001. It was dance party 2012 up in that bitch.

Really starting to see some positive evolution here.

Fish needs to practice during these 5 days off. Or he’s ill. He sounds so flat during this show and the Bonnaroo show. Thankfully, the other three are on fire so it’s not too distracting from the solid show. But as a drummer I’ve cringed a bit at some of the stuff he’s played.

Pretty good first set, and I agree Free is a great opener, especially as it is now as straight forward as Phish can get. It’s got the nice intro, screaming guitar riffs and a nice Mike-ridden dance party section. Perfect opener. I thought the jam out of Roses was really cool even though it was short. I wasn’t expecting it either so it was a pleasant surprise when I was listening. I thought Trey nailed the Maze better than most 3.0 versions…high energy shit. I was excited to hear this Bathtub Gin and assumed it built into something sweet as it closed the set. As mentioned above, Page just destroyed this shit (and the organ solo in Maze). It was awesome.

The first DWD of 2012 is nice. Some good tension and release work at the beginning of the jam before they step out into uncharted territory. They get some good grooves and cool textures going during this jam. The segue into Sand was mired by the fact that Fish had the up and downbeats backward and it took him several measures to realize it or figure it out. Then when he did he was missing the grace notes for a few more measures. IMO he never really recovered during the tune and sounded like he was struggling to get through it. But once he synced up with Mike half-way through the jam it was on. The groove was nice and thick and the segue into Nellie Kane was awesome. Standard 3.0 Mike’s…I liked the Makisupa change-up in the middle but obviously the message was not conveyed to Fish or he forgot. He played Hydrogen for a few measures so the segue wasn’t exactly fluid. But again, once they got hooked up it was all good. I liked some of the effects that Trey was playing with during the little Makisupa jam…akin to the one he used a lot in summer 97 and 1999. I don’t really like Velvet Sea and the only time I can think of that it didn’t suck the energy out of the room was Bethel last year. For whatever reason that one was more upbeat and had a more soaring guitar solo than usual. But if they have to drop the Velvet Pee all over the place, following that up with a sexy 2001>Character Zero is acceptable. The 2001 is drawn out a little more than most 3.0 versions so a dance party is in order for this one. I really like what they did for a minute during the Character Zero jam too for some reason. OKP>Suzie is a good encore.

I thought this show was very tight. I thought it looked a little bit lame on paper, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

I noticed the Sand & H20 stuff. Fish never did catch on to having the Sand groove backwards; Mike reset it to where Fish was at.

Oh yeah that’s right

I think part of the problem (not taking the blame of Fish) is that nearly every song with the exception of Axilla, maybe one or two others, is slowed down. The tempo is just not as quick as it used to be and it seems to be affecting Fish more so than the others.

It can be just a simple timing issue - which should go away after several shows. It’s audible during the 6/7 show as well and even effects Mike in several spots (Nothing is a clear example - it sounded horrible).

“Sounded horrible” might be a bit of a stretch.

Listening now, I just noticed Page’s mic shitting the bed during Wading. Either that or he’s singing it through a kazoo this year.

we were unable to see the encore due to this

Due to you video taping him?

wouldn’t that be a digital record? man will you’re old.

it goes beyond saying that getting punched in the face by a tripping dude is lame… on the other hand it is just such as those experiences of zoo-like aggressive behavior that give such shows of hippieness their distinct flavor.

Last time I had to use The Google to find The Youtube so I could forward Emails to all my friends on The AOL.

::puts cassette tape in sony walkman and plays donkey kong::

i listened to a bit of the stream and “Nothing” is such a pathetic song i had to laugh. i’ll always take a moma dance in my pants though. wait that was 6/7… just mentally put this post over there.

uhm no… due to my wife and I being victims of assault and battery at the hands of this a-hole near the end of the show

^sorry that sucks!

^^I like Nothing > Moma

^^^Will, obviously you can’t bring one of these into the DCU.

Fucking weak. You guys escape relatively unscathed?

I saw that asshat being tackled by security and police near the box office… I was a bit “out of sorts” and had decided to take a refreshing constitutional around the concourse when I saw the shenanigans. I’m sorry to hear that this piece of garbage ruined the end of your show, and I hope you two are OK.
