Comment: *Trey congratulates Chicago on the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup after Possuum. **with extended vocal jam at the end. #First time played, written by Trey and the Dude of Life. First performed during Trey's solo tour in February 2010.

We had a fantastic time at this show.

The accuracy of the playing in that classic 1st set is the highlight there.

2nd set Ghost > Limb by Limb is what it’s all about. The Cavern, Julius encore was a rocking way to send us all home with smiles on our faces. I gotta admit that at the time Caspian and Horse > Silent really got me down since I really didn’t want to hear those. Chalk it up to a long day out in the sun on the lot and a little bit of a headache.

Have to agree with goochy- Ghost>Limb By Limb is definitely the highlight of this show for me. This is a really great tour opener… bodes well for the rest of the summer.

Although whoever decided that there should be no stops at the Gorge this year made the wrong decision.

that’s the truth.

Was fun show. We were right on the rail in front of Trey and Page. Beautiful night. Loved the first three songs, as well as Limb and Ghost and Jesus.

Solid tour opener. Some cool licks, nothing extraordinary though. I thought Blossom was a different level for the better.

Nothing short of spetacular! especially for my first phish set. met a bunch of cool people and had a great time listening to phish! trey was real on, gunna be a great year. thx to the people letting me crash at their place, it was a kick ass time.

I am midway through the second set on my first listen, and this Ghost is a funkin’ good time.

yeah it is… im on antelope right now listening to it agian. just recaping the night… what a show loved the bowie jam alot.

Listened to it last nite. DWD was tiiite, Reba was pretty sweet. That Ghost was pretty damn fantastic, as well as teh LxL vocal. Antelope was a hoot and I dug teh new tune.

Completed listening to this show on this morning’s ride in, and I’m really having a difficult time agreeing with the consensus on this show, at least from the LP download that I heard it through. There was certainly an energy and a positive communication between the band and the fans that showed through the performances. And the composed parts of the songs were very tight and spot on. That being said, I found the jamming on most songs to be less than innovative, and for the most part kind of average. Trey’s playing especially seemed like he was having some level of difficulty finding the exact notes/sounds that he wanted to achieve from his equipment.

I’m not trying to sway anyone away from their opinion of this show, although posting something like this may seem like I am. But the way I hear things is generally much different from most people in the Phish community and always has, so don’t pay much attention to this as anything more than the ramblings of a jaded old phart.

But I don’t know, I think it’s somehow worthwhile to be as honest as I can be at this point in how I react to this music, because there’s a part of me who understands that I could be eating these words the next time I listen to this show. It happens all the time. Happened with a Miami show from last December. So if you don’t want to be impacted by my narrow minded opinions of what I heard in these performances, stop reading any further.

Down with Disease, great start to the show, high energy and an average jam B-
Wolfman’s Brother, high energy and an average jam C
Possum*, high energy and an average jam C
Boogie On Reggae Woman, like Phish 3.0 versions of this song a lot because of how much more Mike is central in the mix B+
Reba, very tight composed part, outro jam kind of average B-
Jesus Just Left Chicago, my favorite song of the night from a performance aspect, A
The Divided Sky, solid version, happy to see the silence period reduced, B/B+
Golgi Apparatus, tight, average version, B
David Bowie, high energy and an average jam C

Light, haven’t really heard enough of these to have a rating either way, wasn’t too enamored with the outtro,
Maze, not really one of my favorite songs and was really confused by Trey’s guitar work over Page’s solo, but I enjoyed this version for some reason, B
Ghost > decent enough version of a song I really like, B
Limb by Limb**, not one of my favorite songs, the vocal jam was kind of different, but otherwise, C/C+
Prince Caspian, truly not one of my favorite songs, but I liked this one, B
The Horse > Silent in the Morning, straightforward and solid, B
Run Like an Antelope, tight even if Fish blew the end of the jam, B-
Show of Life#, reaching out with a message, think they were excited to play this song as a show ender, but it was kind of sluggish, C
Cavern, average C+
Julius, more of the same C+

Be all of this riciulous rating as it may, this show actually rates higher than the sum of the individual song performance values because of the setlists and the enthusiasm of both the band and the crowd. Overall slightly better than average show.

Once again, I apologize for my candor, but as I said, I don’t even buy into my opinions forever. They’re as fleeting as the wind passing through my shorts.

finally finished my first listen yesterday… definitely an above average show, from a tour opener standpoint i think it’s one of the strongest in YEARS.

besides everything else that’s been said, i really think this is a standout version of julius. trey didn’t want it to end, just kept ripping there during the last bars

A C+ for Julius? Get your ears checked, mang.

You’re a tough grader Fone,…but better to have high standards then low ones IMO.

P.S.,…you are forever known as “the jaded old Phart” in my eyes. That cracked me up.

Sincerly,
The crabby 30 something

I’m making my second pass through, and I already moved the first three songs up a half notch. And gooch, I do have my ears checked, it’s my perception and memory that’s the issue.

You are correct Fone. Had I not been so invested in calling Julius. Perhaps I would be-grudge it also. I knew that what I was looking for was not going to be in Chicago. I ordered these tickets on the assumptions that I wasn’t going to get any of the West Coast stuff that I put in for. Certainly the energy was good… until halfway through 2nd set. Horse-Silent has never been a set highlight. Seriously. Anything But Me has more potential out of crunchy jams. Ya Know. It was fun. Just that. I left thinking about the juxtaposition between this show and the next nights show before Blossom happened. Boy was I right.
Ohio’s lackluster setlist, combined with great playing had me grinning like a spungali… If only for 55 minutes of connectivity. That’s why I still go to these things. I kind of denied Hershey Park credit also on some principle of anti-minor-jazz/funk fest. It was fun. It had some soothing jams. Nothing special except throwback song placements. I may be being critical; but I want them to wreck me.

then you didn’t see Anything But Me live in '03-04, did you? that’s killed more sets than Friday and TTE combined

really?

I was in a weird place last night. Blossom did more for me this year than almost every show last year. I had the best time in about a decade. Maybe I was using Anything But Me as an example. If they just cranked it out for about 3 minutes as a quick breather and then dove right back into the goods…
I was comparing the eye-popping setlists of Toyota and Hershey, with the slightly more mellow song selection but much more satisfying playing at Blossom. I always liked the quirky shows the best. It was kind of a weird comparison. Maybe it’s the lack of intimacy that comes with arena rock.

using “lackluster” is what threw me off… i really liked’em both, but blossom was considerably better than chicago in some ways, imo

Antelope has brief DEG tease during intro…
