06/22/12 (Fri) Riverbend Music Center - Cincinnati, OH

Set 1: Wolfman’s Brother, Peaches en Regalia, Shaggy Dog, Runaway Jim, Light Up or Leave Me Alone > Wilson, Alaska, Stash, Llama, Buffalo Bill, Saw It Again, David Bowie(1)

Set 2: Down with Disease > Guelah Papyrus, Kill Devil Falls > Twist, Halley’s Comet > Sand > Roggae, Carini, Chalk Dust Torture, Golgi Apparatus, E: Fluffhead

(1) deicated to CK5- his favorite song also included a when the saints go marching on tease from trey

Notes: Shaggy dog was a bust out (LTP-Oct 95), before llama the band trys to play poor heart- fish flubs it- then they attempt moma dance- flubbed again- then trey asks fish to just start any song- llama (flawless)
Twist was a highlight- they go deep on that one. fluffhead was a rare encore and included an atypical reggae style jam towards the end of the traveling section. This show smokes. CK5 was KILLING it all night - he had our whole section going OOOoooOOOOooOO! and AAAHHH! the crowd was live as fuck and we all left with big stupid smiles on.

Hold on to yer hats folks

Hold on to yer hats is right! I still feel that they were jammin on Tool in the twist , it sounded like vicarious to me.

So, is “Shaggy Dog” considered an original or a cover? Or is it Phish’s version of “sampling” since it’s the same as Lightnin’ Hopkins’ “Shaggy Dad” but with different words?

hold on to your glasses too  thanks again, levi for saving my glasses with your foot

Twist… :open_mouth:

Just got done listening to it. I had the same reaction.

Okay, so my judgement still must have been impaired, because listened to a million tool songs and can’t find the song that I thought they were playing  But I still feel it sounded tool-esque.

Peaches was played flawlessly. Although the acoustics at Riverbend suck because the pav is made of metal, so even if there were flubs I didn’t hear them. Light Up was a great treat, I love that tune, and the jam was real nice. Seemed longer than it was, which is a good thing. The > into Wilson was perfect. No nonsense, everyone broke down on point and boom! Wilson!

I’m not sure what to think about the Poor Heart and Moma situation. At the show I first thought Fish didn’t want to play those songs so he purposely missed his queue, but then people were saying he flubbed it. My friend thinks it was all purposeful as a joke, and in light of the next song being Llama, I’m wanting to think the band was just joking/building anticipation for Llama. First one of the tour I think? So glad to hear both Buffalo Bill and Saw It Again though. Bowie was pretty tame but as Trey noted that it was Kuroda’s favorite song I paid close attention to the lights there and wow… :wtf: I was just blown away. He does a great job with that one.

Second set highlights were a smoking KDF which segued into a fucking masterful Twist during which my friend got puked on. I don’t know why but I was so happy to hear Halley’s. Never realized how much I like that one. Sand was groovy and locked in, Roggae beautiful, and Golgi nailed.

Fluffhead encore was excellent, and the show notes above are correct, Fluff did have an atypical reggae jam towards the end. 30 years later still reinventing the tune. Too cool.

got the timing on this? didn’t hear it myself

^It’s there, Page gets all Jah on Fluff for sure…

At the end of this show I proclaimed it to be in my Top 5 ever seen…

1st Set Shaggy, Bill and ISIA, then throw in 2nd Set Filthy DWD, Twist (Top 3 ever in my book) and a most EPIC Roggae, and to top it all off the 1st Fluff Encore since 1990, you got yourself a super show…

I’ve listened to Twist 6 times already, its that damn good…

^i thought this was the best of last week, I haven’t heard burgettstown but show was just awesome beginning to end, the twist jam was easily the cool thing Ive witnessed from them, so much other cool stuff too

Haven’t been able to relisten to any of the shows bc I left my backpack in the lot at this one and didn’t realize it had my laptop charger in it till I got back to my crash spot

I thought the first set was incredibly blah for some reason. Eh.

^Did you see Peaches, Llama and Saw It Again?

That Twist is Alien Wook Funk

^Alien Wook.

^yeah first and second set were like night and day.

I’d argue that the Gorge '11 Roggae is better, but this one is a close second. Of course, I was there for the Gorge, so I suppose I’m a little biased.

I don’t know, i was captivated by set 1 - I was thilled to hear peaches, shaggy dog, light up, llama, and saw it again maybe because those are songs I don’t get to hear live very often. then the fuck ups and banter also had me entertained. Loved how after fish missed his cue twice, trey has him pick a song that starts with drums- bill and ISIA also selected for the same reason- great segment.
Mike was a joy to hear in the first set: wolfmans, bill, and bowie all showcase funky slap-pop bass lines
2nd set WAS fire, but i have to say even though it was a high energy CDT golgi ending- i thought it was kinda boring- I would have prefered them to skip on those 2 and jam out the halleys and carini instead.
