[3] Phish debut; a capella.

Alright, I’ll be the first to bite.
First off, I gotta say that I have grown up a Cubs fan, and have been seeing games at Wrigley since I was 5 years old. So to see my favorite band playing at my favorite ball club’s historic field makes this an already top notch weekend.
But Phish did not disappoint at all. Always skeptical of early tour shows (in 3.0), but they sounded polished and practiced. Not sure about some of the song choices, but so that does not make or break a show for me.
Sample to start? Ok, I can deal. Chalkdust sounded weird to me, like lower or deeper or something. Thought maybe it was because of where we were sitting, but after re-listening, I still maintain that it sounded…off. First Martian Monster & Yarmouth Road for me, so always nice to get a personal “bustout”.
Sand was most definitely the hightlight of set l (and maybe all of N1) for me. Just a groovy song that gets everyone moving, and Trey sounded on point. I said it that night, and I stand by it: they had that place by the balls, ready to rock the “f” out after Sand, and they totally blew it by giving us “Miss You”. :imp:
Song was OK, but man, the WORST placement ever. The energy was zapped right out of the whole place, instantly. Rest of set 1 was tight, well played, and very good.
The DWD>Fuego>Twist was awesomeness for sure. Twist is going to get many revisits from me for sure. Waste was fantastic, but it holds a very special place with me & the mrs. And I thought Loving Cup was a great way to end Set 2. I always like seeing that one live.
Then, what else can be said about Space Oddity that hasn’t already been said?! :astonished:   :open_mouth:
And of course, I got ANOTHER Antelope! Not that I’m complaining, just a running joke.
Started in 218, then noticed that the entire section behind homeplate was empty, so we walked down there (with zero security issues), and stayed there for the rest of the night. There was nobody there through the whole show, & had a entire row to myself!
Great first night! Phish-Wrigley? Yeah I can get used to that!

I agree that it was rotten placement. It was actually a disservice to the song, and themselves. How they debuted it has kind of marred the song a bit.

DWD > Fuego > Twist was the second time I have seen this exact sequence (10-24-14). Generally, I don’t like Fuego as a second set song. I feel that it brings momentum to a screeching halt. This was actually the vibe the entire night had. Everytime it sounded like they had traction they would do something silly (song placement ) to disrupt it.

Highlights : Martian Monster > Rift, Sand, TWIST (fo sho) and Space Oddity.

Of the 3 shows I saw, Minny, DC. this one was my favorite and one of the best Phish experiences I have had!

For as many times I have been to Chi Town this was my first as well as my gf"s first time riding the L.
The weather was beautiful, and even though being a Cards fan  , this was my first time to Wrigley, I couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear walking down Addison st and seeing the Wrigley sign with “I saw you with a ticket stub in your hand”

We had great seats…up in the 400’'s behind home plate, 3rd row in front of the press box… Sound was great, and the gap from the stage/field didn’t seem as bad as I thought it would.

The first part of the first set was ok… standard…there were problems with the sound/speakers, but they seemed to work that out.
My first Martian Monster, god I love those Halloween songs.

Sand was nasty and the highlight of the first set.

The new tune Miss you, was unload and refuel time. As it was for a lot… I really don’t know where Phish could place that tune.

Anyway the Wedge was a good choice and the Blaze on to the end the set was a very good version and one of my highlights.

The second set gave us some type II jams with the DWD-Fuego-Twist… My favorite of the 3 shows I saw… I like twenty years later and I thought Waste was beautifully played(even the lesser songs are getting to me this tour) and it really set up for a knock out 2001… def one of the longer ones as of late, but it can always go on longer!
Loving cup was a rockin way to end the set… Nice not to always see iT in the Encore slot…

I admit I had no idea of the Space Oddity tune  But it was so fascinating…Very cool…with a Antelope to close was a nice way to end a great show.

I have to say I was way impreeesed with the crowd, from what I have heard others were too. No offense to Chicago but Northerly has had some bad crowds and I thought Wrigley would be worse…I was so wrong, everywhwre I looked everyone seemed to be into it and I didn’t have any problems with talkers.

What a great venue for them to play… good sound, easy to get beers and bathroom as far as I know up top.

This is the best venue Phish could play in Chicago and while I dont think it’s likely, They need to make this a tour stop…
