1: My Friend My Friend, Don’t You Wanna Go, Bathtub Gin, NICU-> The Sloth, My Mind’s Got a Mind of It’s Own, It’s Ice, Dog Faced Boy, Tela, Possum

2: Down With Disease-> Free-> Poor Heart-> You Enjoy Myself, Strange Design, Run Like An Antelope

E: Sleeping Monkey-> Rocky Top

Badass second set. while the entire second set scorches , its the DWD->Free from this show that has been one of my favorite segments from summer 95.

The first set of this show is a fun little set, but the second set can do battle for one of my favorite sets of Phish. It features the first type II’d versions of both DWD and Free and my-oh-my do they both fucking rage. I used to have this second set on tape and I would literally listen to the DWD->Free->Poor Heart (all on one side), then rewind the side and listen again. It’s great shit. Even though the segue from Free->Poor Heart isn’t 100% perfect, I love it because you can just hear the adrenaline running through the band during Poor Heart after those two jams. Awesomeness. Then to follow that you have a great YEM (95 saw much improvement to that tune IMO) and a scorching Antelope. Sweet sweet second set.

Spac is my favorite east coast venue. I saw Phish open for Santana there and there were many phishies in the crowd… The only shows I have not been to at Spac were the 2004 ones… I saw Lollapalooza 1and2, depeche mode, Furthur fest in 96 the DEad in 2000… great venue. I also worked there when I toured with Deep Purple. It was a great feeling standing downstage center in my favorite venue. The acoustics on stage were crap though.

Just listened to this show this past weekend. Here are some thoughts:

  • I wish “Don’t You Want To Go” would find its way back into their repertoire.

  • I don’t know if Page’s voice / the bands harmonies have ever sounded so good. (That Tela! ::Swoons:: )

  • DWD falls into some Danny Elfman, Men in Black score, territory pretty quick. Some weird / wild stuff there.

  • I love the atypical start stop jamming going on in Free. It is less start / stop, and more crescendo / decrescendo; like you are on a road trip, and somebody keeps turning the volume on the radio up and down, and when the music is down you can hear the tires on the road (Trey’s loop.) :smiley:
