Looks interesting through Ghost. Then it doesn’t. Gotta let the ears judge now.

The first set of this show was my favorite of the two-night Alpine run. The second set was my least favorite, but it was still good. Frankenstein through Coil was the best mini-run of the entire Alpine experience. Page was in the zone and was having a blast! When Page steps up like that, the band really transcends their normal greatness.

The second set was nice through Ghost, ^as mentioned above. No Quarter is such a bad-ass cover song. Page once again killed this one. The 46 Days was also a bright spot. It was relatively short, but they rocked out and the energy was great.

This was my first Dirt and Access Me - what beautiful songs they are. Maybe these are standard versions vs. their normal fare, but I thoroughly enjoyed them in person and the SBD is quite nice as well. I can’t wait to go back and here Maze again - Mike tore that tune a new one.

What a great two nights!!! Wish I could have made it to Deer Creek

A stark contrast to the previous night, this show wrapped its tiny little hands around my attention and wouldn’t let me go, that is until they played two consecutive songs from Undermind. But not to worry they slapped me in the face with their “Meat” and show seemed to open and swallow me whole.

FEE! And this was no ordinary Fee, it was a Fee fit for a king. I go into every show knowing that they are going to surprise me with their fanciful whims, but this was the first time I found myself absolutely astonished.

But, as is the case with all Phish show, the second set it what I came for. Crosseyed > No Quarter > LIGHT (which in my opinion is their best post breakup song) > Ghost was one of the best sequences of songs I have seen in person. 46 days and Julius were also top notch Phish, and Meatstick was an absolute blast.

Now the bad. 5 songs from Farmhouse?! There are only four songs from that album that I honestly enjoy: Twist, Bug, Dirt, and Farmhouse. I can do without Gotta Jibboo, Back on the Train, and Heavy Things.

But barring 4 or 5 songs this is a very special show, check it out for sure.

Whoaaaa Feeee

Agree with you…Fee was fantastic. Gonna slap a “best of 3.0” on that bad boy, for sure. Undermind songs are fantastic and it’s great to hear them getting played.

Ghost…wow. The third Ghost of the tour was an absolute monster.

This show meant business. Great weekend with some great OKP friends.

GGGHHHHHOOOOSSSTTTTTTT

BOT is always fun!

Great show, fun times and high energy. A few tunes were not what we wanted, but not every show will be what YOU want, ya know?

they played well, they played hard and I had a BLAST!

I can’t bitch, because I did MOST of the leg, but MAN!! Wish I was at Alpine.

“instant classic”

For a show that, for my personal taste, has a pretty piss poor setlist, this show rocks. I guess only the second set setlist was poor. Soul Shakedown is a great way to open any show. 4th Velvet Underground bustout in a row. Fun times. Vultures and Meat are always cool tunes to hear. I don’t like Jibboo, but I loved Trey’s solo in this one so much that I actually listened to it twice :shh: I think Access Me is a terrible tune, which pains me to say bc it’s a Mike tune. The Fee is the highlight of the show for me though. So cool.

I got burnt out on C&P last year, but this one is decent. No Quarter is an awesome cover for them. The Light>Ghost both fucking rock. The Light jam is amazing and when they turned it up a notch in Ghost I had to set down my work for a few minutes and get down at my desk. Though it is a short jam, it rocks. The song selection during the rest of the set just doesn’t jive well with me, BUT…I enjoyed listening to every minute of it. They were shining and the 46 Days smoked.

I don’t get the “T.F. The Meatstick”…anyone?

^ I agree, on paper this is a bad show. Songs like Access Me, Gotta Jibboo, Heavy Things do nothing for me, and I honestly don’t care for ASIHTOS or Back on the Train, but this show did me a favor by making BOTT less than 5 minutes long. None the less it was still a very fun show, and honestly I enjoyed it a whole lot more than 6.30.

But if you don’t like jamming or Phish songs that came out before 1999, this show is for you.
If you don’t like jamming or Phish songs that came out before 1999, I don’t care to ever meet you.

trey told us during the song that “from now on we’re doing it by initials” so then he says he hoped you enjoyed H. things ( which many did NOT- me not included) C.E and painless “and right now we’d like to do the dance for you now.” This is called “T.F. The Meatstick”.

The T.F are the initials for “time for”

jus the boys goofin around having fun onstage

Ah I just couldn’t figure out what the “TF” stood for.

Harpua, you are very confusing…the first post you praise this show, second post you say it is a bad show on paper…I don’t think this show sucks on paper or by ear, don’t mean to call you out but this is bullshit-
“But if you don’t like jamming or Phish songs that came out before 1999, this show is for you.
If you don’t like jamming or Phish songs that came out before 1999, I don’t care to ever meet you.”

especially the first part, crosseyed is almost 13 minutes, that’s almost three times as long as the original Talking Heads version, anybody who complains about a show that contains No Quarter the way these guys have been playing it can also get bent IMO…a nearly 15 minute Light? if you don’t like jamming? what are you talking about dude? do these songs look bad on paper (or a computer screen)? cause that’s where my biggest problem is in your post, I saw this setlist and sought it out immediately, I don’t do that often for shows I didn’t attend

Soul Shakedown Party
Lonesome Cowboy Bill
Vultures
Dirt
ASIHTOS (I like this tune, and I think the majority of phish fans do, though I could be mistaken)
Meat
Frankenstein
Fee
Maze
Squirming Coil
CE&P
No Quarter
Light
Ghost
46 Days
Julius
Meatstick

don’t mean to come across as if I’m attacking you, but holy crapola I would love to hear any of those tunes, any day, any show…

WHAT?!? Something that appeals to you doesn’t appeal to everybody else? This is the first I am hearing about this sort of thing happening, and I have to say I am not pleased. Lets all try to go back where we all enjoyed the exact same thing.

I’m sorry for confusing you, and was unaware that I am not allowed to enjoy a show that has a set list that doesn’t appeal to me.

When nearly half the songs played are Farmhouse or newer, it makes the show look less appealing to me. This is what I mean by “bad on paper”, but if you would have read that whole paragraph you would have read that the last sentence in it was: “None the less it was still a very fun show, and honestly I enjoyed it a whole lot more than 6.30.” or in my original post on this page I acknowledged the fact that there were song played that I generally don’t care for “But barring 4 or 5 songs this is a very special show, check it out for sure.” I am not hating on this show. In fact I have posted two posts on this very thread that would make a reader believe that I liked this show.

So now for your benefit I will state in no uncertain terms that “Even though I don’t like 5 of the songs that were played, I ENJOYED THIS SHOW!”

You also pointed out C&P > No Quarter > Light, as being jammed and / or played well. Well, it just so happens that I said this: “Crosseyed > No Quarter > LIGHT (which in my opinion is their best post breakup song) > Ghost was one of the best sequences of songs I have seen in person,” in my original post.

Now, I am to blame for some of this. I did imply there was no jamming. I should have said something to the effect of “if you don’t like a lot of jamming” or “if you don’t like extensive jamming” I will take responsibility for this.

Now, do not pretend like you are not attacking me, when your exact words were “anybody who complains about a show that contains No Quarter the way these guys have been playing it can also get bent IMO.” From which I can infer that you are telling me to get bent. This sounds an awful lot like an attack. So, who are you crapping?

This show was special for me and my girl. A one- two punch of great show/set starting covers opens up the concert. Then they hit us with Vultures! We have been mentioning this one has a tune we want to hear and BAM- early delivery in the first set- fish nailed the solos(I haven’t seen one of these since DC-2003.) Dirt is always a good down time song for much needed rest/ bowl smoking. Access me in never a song I go into a show wishing to hear- but you gotta love mike songs- this song is fun and bouncy, good for dancing- sweet page solo w/ trey just beaming at him- and if you don’t like it, its only 3 min -What really made this set/show for us was the MEAT. We have been meat hunting for some time now(9 years) and even wanted to make a giant meat sign for this show— no need! They just knew that shit and played it just for us. We both love frank w/ the keytar because we like how page gets to stand next to mike and trey and be more involved (closer) –he loves it and it makes us love it even more. We rocked the fuck out for that one- this was my 35th show and I finally got my first fee (inside the venue- not just listening from outside) and it was great that for my first fee they gave it such a nice treatment- loved when the drums dropped out for a moment and then came back in for more jam. Maze- another special tune for me and the gf, they play this for us often and we love them for it- this is the tune that helped us find eachother when we got separated at alpine 09- plus what a rockin organ solo! Coil is one of jenny’s faves because she loves page the most – she loves when they do the walk off ending – it was magical- what a set!
Set 2 also opened up with a one-two punch of covers more appropriate for the dark- c.e&p was awesome- I thought fish must want to sing today (2nd song w/ fishman lead vocals) no quarter was rocking and light is a gooey jam- we liked the Frankie says tease and the secret language stuff. That is one of the things I love about this band- it seems when they tease things and do secret lang. cues that they are giving the real listeners (those of us who can be seen cupping our hands behind our ears, moving away from the clappers and talkers, and turning off phones before showtime) a secret treat- it makes the show more fun and interesting. Light is an awesome jam vehicle, as soon as I hear the opening chords I know shits bout to get wacky and far out- love this tune (even though they wrote it after 99 ^^^lol)
Ghost is my favorite phish song. Why? Because of the funk. So that’s good too. BOTT kept the funk going and more dancing ensued. Farmhouse was an island in a funk ocean and it was good to have a little breather- plus Ive always loved this tune. It is important to have contrast in songs- its part of the eb and flow of the set- if its just jams and rockers you lose perspective- you need the valleys to make the peaks peakyer. 46 days smoked and kept the funk going- even though it was short it had some nice crescendos.
Heavy things was an odd choice- but the fun upbeat dance # was not lost on us. I suppose this show would have been more of a “snob pleaser” if they switched this song with maze. Joy has a line in it that rang true “this is your song too” after a night of getting songs that felt like they were played specifically for us we were reminded that even a song like joy is another one of “our songs” because we slow danced to it on several occasions the summer of 09 when we met and fell in love. It is more than obvious they want us to be happy.
Julius rocked and had me doing the “school marm” (think mic jagger) all over the lawn- good set closer
Meatstick was a surprise- we thought we missed our meatstick opportunity because it was recently played so this wasn’t even in the realm of possibilities – it was a FUNKplosion in my brain- nice burying
Sorry for the long-winded,highly personal review- just thought I would share my awesome experience w/ yall.

I really do like that song too.
