*Relatively complete; they skipped one verse, but far longer and better than the spontaneous version from 07-26-97. ^Preceded by the “mule duel.” **Unfinished; develops into “Drowned” jam. ***Different, more Hendrix-style than the versions from 1997.

Just watching this 2nd set and WOW this is a good one. This drowned is contending for my favorite version. Wish they had the first set available on video. Looks great. Never heard much talk of this show but its GREAT. Go get a hold of this one!

I actually think the first set is better than the second one, though I agree with your Drowned assessment. It rages. But the Carini->Boogie On->NICU trio to open the show is a lot of fun, and that is followed by a nice scorching Melt. I always love Meat (he he), but the highlight is the 20+ min first-set Tweezer, especially the last few minutes of the jam.

Honestly, the second set to me kind of dives after Theme. The Drowned is really really good and the Theme that follows has some really nice guitar work. I do like Circus as a slow tune so no complaints there, but I detest Blister in the Sun so it’s practically impossible for me to enjoy this Scent of a Mule. The Hood is nice and pretty until they get close to the climax of the jam and then it kind of derails, at which point Trey makes an awkward segue into Izabella, in which the rest of the band doesn’t join in until after the first verse. In fact, the transition sounds very reminiscent of 3.0 Phish :stuck_out_tongue: :shifty: :frowning:
