^ Yea I took a nice power nap after lunch as well.
Well, the weather for this show was the worst I’ve been in. Wind ranged from a 5 out of 10 to 10/10 towards the end of the first set; rain was anywhere between a 1 up to an 8/10. Mostly the rain was sideways and in the 5-7 out of 10 range. Into my face.
That being said, the band recognized the brave souls who turned up and played an extra long first set. To be frank, the conditions were so bad that by the time both my shoes were soaked it was difficult to focus on the music. I was thinking “I don’t need this shit. I’ve got 2 more shows this weekend, let’s get out of here.”
And out of there we would have left save for a certain someone who had left their backpack with their house keys inside my trunk. Wasn’t going to screw him over, but this was the CLOSEST I ever came to leaving a Phish show.
The first half of that second set was MONEY. From the starting notes of Rock n’ Roll, with that brilliant improv and segue into 2001, to that Tweezer jam and the sheer will of Trey forcing everyone to go into Cities, and the Wedge which followed… that was Phish 3.0 at its finest.
I’ve never felt so physically awful yet spiritually and musically enlightened at the same time. Only for this band, only from this band.
And yes, knowing what I know now I STILL would have left after Set 1.
