Ah…My first show of Summer Tour 2003. My second time at Bonner Springs, 9/25/00 being the first. I went with a couple of my close buddies. Scored great pavilion seats dead center. We got to the lots super early. We had to wait in line before they would let us in. We ended up getting in a little before 3 and got all set up and begin drinking and whatnot. Apparently I bought a shirt of Big B or one of his crew members at this show…my Nelson Ha Ha Ha shirt. Damn I wish I still had that.
Anyways after drinking ALL day…needless to say I was feeling good…we headed in just before showtime. I remember the first set being fun. The first set of the first show you attend in a number of shows together is always a highlight. Typically you haven’t seen the band in a while and your jonesing for some Phish. Well needless to say this first set was standard, but still fun as we got some good dance alongs like Chalk, Wolfman’s, Maze, GBOTT.
The drinks continued to flow. Why the hell was I spending so much money at the beer stand during this show? A lot of folks have said this show was rather sloppy. Well I was sloppy so in my inebriated state I failed to realize this. I had a blast second set. Musically nothing is crazy, but in my drunken state I remembered the failed attempt at Cavern lyrically. I remember liking the Tweezer>Makisupa with the Dust in the Wind teases (honestly in my state I didn’t catch the tease at all). I don’t like limb by limb’s in the second set, but whatever. Antelope was awesome as always. Then we get to wave our arms around and rage for the encore. Fun show.
Off to Alpine. Phish never do this again. Bonner Springs to Alpine in one night was brutal…BRUTAL. There is no way I would have made it in my state. I gave the keys to my buddy and he drove…although I don’t he was in the greatest state either.
