07/21/03 - Verizon Wireless Music Center - Noblesville, Indiana

Set 1: Cities, Runaway Jim, Meat, Water in the Sky, Stash, My Old Home Place, Vultures, Birds of a Feather > Mike’s Song > I am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove

Set 2: Suzy Greenberg > Taste > 46 Days > Tweezer > 2001 > Limb By Limb > Good Times Bad Times

Encore: Loving Cup> Tweezer Reprise

Made it to Deer Creek a day early for this show because of the day off in between Alpine and Deer Creek. Made it to “Nitrous City” aka Green Acres around 6PM the night of the 20th. Me and my crew had a sweet setup right near the entrance. If anyone was at Green Acres during this run I was the dude that gave away everyone of my tapes to passer bys for free. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Got to the lots relatively early as we had plenty of time to kill, but being at the campground is like being in the lots so it wasn’t a big rush to get there early. I remember Deer Creek 03 being “molly fest.” I think I found some molly every day. It served me well that’s for sure.

Anyways onto the show. Cities opener…boo-yah. Maybe a nod to our make shift cities (campgrounds). Then you got the Jim and the last played Meat as of this date. Water and Stash are some nice typical first set numbers. My first Old Home Place was next! I was thrilled to hear this bluegrass number. In my altered state after the show I was continuouslly saying that we’d hear Paul and Silas tomorrow. Dammitt I wanted a Paul and Silas. Thanks to 8/11/09 I got one!!! Back to back songs about Birds was awesome with a sweet Mike’s groove to close the first set. I loved this set!!!

Second set opened up with Suzy and the crowd was chanting Suzy like crazy. Now Suzy wasn’t as common occurrence in 2003 as it was in 2009 so it was more special. Second set turned into a seguefest going into Taste and then then the new rocker 46 Days. My first 46 days!! Wasn’t a crazy version, but still balls to your wall rocker. This segued into Tweezer, which if I remember blew my mind at the time. 2009 maybe gave a little nod to this show as this had the Tweezer>2001 combo. Weird I think Tweezer>2001 has only been segued together three times and two times were at the Creek. This went into limb by limb. Ugh…I don’t mind a throw away every once in a while so I can’t complain. The set ends with a Rocking Good Times Bad Times. I loved this set as well!!! A rocker!!!

The encore of Loving Cup>Reprise was kept us dancing till the end. I had an absolute blast at this show!! A lot of people have bashed this show as sloppy, but damn I thought it was a sweet show!! I’ll never forget this night!! 2 more nights of this madness I thought!!

At the show was great, and years after I thought it was good. Then out of nowhere, I caught a listen and noticed all the slop you quickly mentioned above. Kind of ruined it all for me.

But that first set is LONG! I remember thinking Birds of a Feather was probably the closer, and BAM with the Mike’s Groove. Even during Mike’s Song I was figuring that would end the set and we would get the Groove another time. Boy was I wrong.

I would say my highlight would be the 46 Days > Tweezer > 2001.
