yeah. for real. no type 2 to be seen, but they were ON FIRE! of note to me, was the power of the roggae thru encore run, but that was far from the only highlight
a total other side of the coin from shoreline where they were relaxed, almost timid, but went to some amazing places
bend 2… not much to say there. if you are open to the future with this band… another side of the coin that really shows how truly relevant this band still is and brilliant as it stands on its own for its very own reasons. (not to mention that transcendant simple)
so far, way better than fall tour with 3/4 shows hitting WAY out of the park, all 3 for very different reasons.
and even 1/4th wasnt terrible. it had some significant flubs and was a bit slow and disjointed, but it wasnt a “bad” show, and except for noted flubs, pretty well executed. it just wasnt what the next 3 were and lacked the “flow” the last 3 DEFINITELY had
wow. what a tour kickoff. so envious to the rest of you who get to finish this tour. this was my last show of (apparently) the year. but what a way to go out! where they end up by dicks could be truly career defining stuff, which is insane that most put them in their prime 94-97 and now they have almost redefined themselves in a ridiculously new (yet “phishy”) direction at 30 some years
of note, the cops outside the venue were awesome, the security/ushers inside were downright incompetent, and the cops inside downright aggressive and belligerent, EVEN WHEN I SHOWED MY TICKET AND THAT I WAS WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE). i was told by a very cool staff member, brianna, that it wasnt normally like this but the special olympics were in town and all thier good people were pulled for that and rthe riff raff (my words, not hers) were sent to the phish show. i assume the same thing about the dickhead cops INSIDE the venue. Outside, they were awesome, inside, bullying foul mouthed intimidating jackasses
also of note, no outside bathrooms like last year where they were cleaned by a beautiful young lady every 3 or so uses. the cops did not seem concerned when i asked about that, and didnt seemed to be bothered by mass public urination as a result, going back to their lunch. they were pleasant, but not there to bust heads. they seemed to be enjoying themselves, total opposite of shorelines new mobile prison system, fleet of undercovers, and downright intimidating outside behavior
forum was my buddies 1st show and after a nice altoid of some sort, he is now ready to hit the road with me next tour. forum was a great show, as was 75% of this tour so far, exceeding and altering expectations in many ways while really showing how truly diverse a great phish show can be
3 out of the last 4 shows i was blown away by this band, each in its unique way. this is a very new experience after seeing them for 21 years. this week was such a joy. thank all of you part of it for being there. forum was certainly an appropriate cap on a delicious run. i hope they keep mixing things up the way have been. this is so much better than “knowing” they are going to do a loving cup encore , a 2nd set sand excursion, or 2nd set dwd opener (or a tahoe tweezer for that matter). what they gave was new and unique, to the treatment to the delivery, even of old type 2 “standards”. i loved every minute of it. i loved short sand in bend 2nd song 1st set, i loved dwd for the same reason, i loved tweezer for being brief,m different and potent, while leading into a total unforseen goldmine of material roggae on
and yes, i include that bdtnl in that run you should listen to. it smoked, and it was obviously from the heart with a decent amount of fun type 1
sorry, rambling again. wrapping up now. thanks for indulging
