Soundcheck: My Soul. Jam. (incomplete and unconfirmed)

Set 1: Chalk Dust Torture, Camel Walk, Sparkle, Back on the Train, It’s Ice[1], Brian and Robert, Yarmouth Road, Kill Devil Falls, Lawn Boy, Ocelot, Stash

Set 2: Tweezer[2] > Tela > Twist > Architect, Bouncing Around the Room > Run Like an Antelope[3]

Encore: Julius > Tweezer Reprise

[1] Golden Age tease.
[2] Included call and response “Wooo” with the crowd
[3] More “Wooo” from the crowd

Notes: It’s Ice included Golden Age teases by Trey. Tweezer included a spontaneous call and response with crowd cheering back, “Wooooo” at a couple of different points in the jam. This same, “Woooo” from the crowd repeated during Antelope.

Holy Shit. I kept hitting refresh on Phish.net, and assumed they had just stopped updating the setlist for set 2. Nope. Turns out, 36 MINUTE TWEEZER!!?!?! And then right into Tela. That right there is the stuff dreams are made of. Can not wait to hear some reports on how this one went down.

No T set? Man this band sucks!

Seriously though, what a journey. And the call and response is my favorite thing when it happens. By far top 3.0 jam, and up there with anything the band has played, ever.

Just listened to that tweezer, holy fucking shit! after the woos in the 27th minute there is an ABB vibe that had me grining. minutes 33 and 34 are full on goosebumps!!! awesome conclusion to a really solid tweezer.

A collective Phish community thought: “I KNEW they could still do it.”

Of course they can. This Tweezer is what it’s all about.

Part of me feels like there’s a switch they can flip whenever they want to… like backstage Trey says, “he guys, wanna just let it fly and play a 30+ minute Tweezer??” :wtf: And I think if they so choose, at any given show, they can decide to go on these longer musical passages, but often choose to play more songs instead, depending on how cohesive they’re playing each night.

Dicks night two last year is a good example of this type of playing. Like it was a decision to play like that on that night.

Back from Tahoe…    :open_mouth: :open_mouth:   HOLY CHRIST!!! Now that’s a review!

Sums it up nicely

I feel like this too. They must just be back stage and when they feel especially comfortable they just say, hey guys let’s take em for a ride! I mean all three nights dicks last year felt like they were just like … let’s fucking jam. i also feel like this because every time a jam is cut short i feel like a conscious decision is made. it never feels likwe they think “oh this jam isn’t working”. either way. one of the best Tweezers of all time without a doubt. all who were there are lucky ducks. :envious:

^I have to disagree with the above statements. I play in a band and we do a ton of heavy improv, and there have been shows where we have had the intentions of blowing the doors off of jams and it just doesn’t happen, and a lot of times the big ones come when you least expect it. To pre-emptivley say “lets jam this Tweezer for 30 minutes” goes against what improvisation is all about. I like to think that they went into that Tweezer like any other, with a “lets see what happens” attitude. However, I can see where yall are coming from, since it seems like they could pretty much let it hang loose whenever they want due to the caliber of their playing/communication. This Tweezer sounds to me though like a band who just found themselves incredibly locked in, in the moment, and didn’t want to stop.

It was totally the female orgasm Trey played in the beginning that brought it ON!

yea but yer not phish, and probably haven’t been playing together 30 years.

I agree with vermonster here. I think without a doubt they can choose how long they want to jam…whether or not they’re feeling it or hooking up is a different matter. If youre not feeling it nothing is gonna make you feel it, and if youre not hooking up maybe someone else isnt feeling it. Those best jams comes when everyones feeling the same vibe.

This was my 20th full show (left early in 2011 at Merriweather to prepare to play an after-party). And boy, what a dream.

There really is nothing like a west coast phish show. I mean, man they really made it a special night. Not just with the Tweezer, but the whole flow of the show. It was fantastic.

So just to clue everyone in, they played this for my wife and I

On our way out here to our new home in Sacramento we saw night 3 in Chicago, both Gorge shows (spur of the moment decision, but that’s another story) and these two Tahoe shows. Going in to Tahoe, we only had tickets for night 1 due to various considerations (primarily the fact that we didn’t have an apartment lined up yet, and my wife started grad school that Friday). We kept saying we were only going to the first show, to which many responded “Yeah…right!” After night 1, we crashed at a camp site about 5 minutes from the venue, and I think we both floated the possibility of staying night 2. We said we would discuss the possibility more in the AM. Camp site was pitch black and a maze at night! After waking up in a campgrounds filed with heads, we decided to stick it out for night 2 and drive in to a Sacto motel post-show (side note, we only had to pay $6 because we accidentally camped at a site someone else had a reservation for…oops!) After a relaxing day swimming in the lake and hanging out around Tahoe, we headed to the venue and scored tickets for face in under 5 minutes, lotsa extras floating around.

Anyway, my wife REALLY wanted to see a Tweezer, in the 4 previous shows we hadn’t gotten one. In fact, we might not have stayed if we had gotten a Tweezer in one of those shows. So we scored tickets just under face pretty easily on Shakedown (which was hopping btw), and settled in with our crew who had a tent up (PhiShalom if anyone saw 'em.) We mentioned to a few people that we really wanted a Tweezer, and were gonna ask for our money back if they didn’t play it. Pre-Set 2 my wife, myself, and a friend all called a Tweezer opener. 37 minutes later, we were filled with abundant joy. Prolly owe the band twice the ticket price, if we were gonna ask for a refund…What a band! What a tour!

P.S. I hit a Possum (i think?) while coming down from the mountain on our way into Sacramento. I am NOT making this up.
