% fan requested stage banter with a sign so trey obliged

Just got back from the show and thought it was good. Nothing earth shattering, but a lot of fun and solid playing. Highlight of the show was definitely the Tweezer. Right at the beginning of the jam Page was working the Fender Rhodes while Mike was playing some chunky bass lines…it was beautiful. The DWD->Free was also a highlight of set 2.
First set highlights were Wolfman’s and Antelope. The Wolfman’s jam was solid as usual and the Antelope jam had a really nice groove until they sloppily wrapped it up and tried to bring the peak too early.
The stage banter was Trey talking about Paul Languedoc and how Paul told him a few months ago that he had saved a special piece of wood for a guitar just for him. So Trey debuted it tonight and was really loving the sound coming out of it. Then he asked us to thank him and felt obliged to play Loving Cup. I’m pretty sure though that sign said “Spock’s Brain” on the other side, so maybe we’ll get that tomorrow

PS: I forgot to mention that I’m pretty sure they played Homo Rainbow by Ween in their soundcheck today. Just sayin.

Nice Tweezer…maybe I had TOO high of expectations for them “right outta the gate”.

Tonight should be fun!!

They playing was extremely tight though, I’ll def give em that.

Good solid show.

I enjoyed the show, it was a solid show, a good 5 or 6 out of 10. Which if you think about it, after a layoff and the opening night, it had to be a little safe, I guess… I got to hear almost all the show via a decent stream… Yes I know, it is not like being there but, I digress!!!

Tonight I think the chops return, etc!!

Just got done listening. Tight playing for sure. Not a bad opener to leg 2 at all. I enjoyed the stage banter withe the Languedoc chanting and Trey’s remarks on playing a bad guitar on this next song

REALLY?!?!?

Ween plays that song a lot in the Bay area, but I don’t know how it would go over with Phish fans. Some people just don’t really have a sense of humor.

There is only 1 song where they balance the mike stands in the air like they did last night. Anybody that was at the 1st night of Ann Arbor 03/93 would know that.

been listening to portions of this show sporadically the past couple days and I gotta say it sounds pretty juiced. I’ve heard up until Free and I can’t think of any moments where i was bored listening. As much as I like Sample I was a little turned off by how abruptly it interrupted what i was anticipating as a raging Haley’s jam but forgot about it by the chorus.

Wolfman’s & DWD>Free are must hears.

Funky Bitch and Kill Devil Falls are both really nice.

Halley’s really started to bring some fire, Trey was playing incredibly well… unfortunately they chose to cut it off relatively quickly and head into Sample.

NICU was a bit rough, but the Antelope made up for that one.

I really liked the Down With Disease, and I have been getting a bit tired of that one… good segue into Free (another tune I have just never been a big fan of).

Maze and Joy were both very good.

Tweezer -> Fluffhead was amazing. Segment of the night.

Fun encore. Lights up. Go home. Lights up again.

A few rough spots here and there, but I liked the jams that came out of set two.

Nice clip of Trey’s stage banter: (I still don’t know how to embed video)

I would really consider doing bad things to get my hands on Treys new guitar. It is one of the most gorgeous instruments I’ve ever seen.
P.S. this maze smokes most 3.0 versions

I agree. Best maze of 3.0 by far. Nailed the peak ending. One of my favorite phish songs.

I remember the Wolfman’s being particularly good, haven’t listened to the show yet.

Tweezer - Absolute Mike Gordon domination. Trey’s phrasing ain’t too shabby either.

By the way, if you ever decide to see a show at the Greek Theatre - and plan on dancing - DO NOT get a spot on the lawn. I am not saying gettin’ down is impossible up there but it definitely takes a certain technique. You sort of have to angle your body perpendicularly with the stage and use the leg that is lower on the hill as your balance/ground point. People were literally rolling down the hill taking other people out with them (Thanks Hank!). Alpine lawn has nothing on this 45 degree angle bad boy.

He speaks nothing but truths. My favorite part of the Tweezer though is Page on the fender Rhodes for the first part. Delicious!

There is totally a FyF tease during the Stage Banter. About 10-15 seconds from the end. That would have fit for a tribute to Mr. Languedoc.

Big ups to the nice young men we hired to hold down our spot in line!
