E: When the Circus Comes, Rocky Top

Finally got an AUD of this show and it’s as I remembered. The “Taste” is particularly tasty, no doubt. I also really like the song “When The Circus Comes To Town” as a soft encore number. My memories had PYITE high on the list but listening to it again after all these years it doesn’t hold up to some others. Ghost is particularly slow in the first set.

My first Phish show so I love it anyway…

Definately a great show start to finish. summer 97 Ghosts were weak. That song blew up in fall that year, but other than that this show is great. Reba is a little slow as well if i remember correctly. 97 Themes are amazing.

My second show.
Ghost was seriously in the early stages.
PYITE was my first time hearing is and it blew me away.

Scent Of A Mule took the night for me.

Another show on my list of shows to find a better quality recording.

Phish.net’s jamming chart for Mike’s Groove calls this Weekapaug must hear and will have me weeping for joy…I disagree, but it does have some moments. Nasty clav breakdown, really far out tension/release solos from Trey. Good stuff. Not must hear but…listen to it.

This is by far the craziest thing I’ve heard in years. I don’t even know how to address this. I won’t say that this one is outstanding by any means, but shit…the 7/21 is sick and the 7/23 Ghost is my all-time favorite. The 7/31 Ghost is nastay as well. Let’s not forget too that they dropped some unbelievable Ghosts on the Europe portion of the tour. I miss the slow, 97 arrangement/versions of Ghost. Mike shines.

Anyway, this is a good show, though I like the one the night before and after better. This Reba is beautiful and is the only Reba of the US portion of the summer tour. I like Crossroads as a rare surprise, especially as a first set closer. The first half of the second set starts out really strong, but the last half of it is rather stagnant save for a nice Mule. I loved the Foam curveball coming out of Wilson to start. Foam is always one of those tunes that is just so unique and awesome. I never really think “I’d love to hear a Foam tonight”, but it always makes me smile when they play it. I think the Mike’s->Ain’t Love Funny is the highlight of the night for me.

ok they werent weak perse but there are way better ghosts outside of summer 97 minus lakewood

I think the Mike’s->Ain’t Love Funny is the highlight of the night for me.
