Shortest “Tube” ever?

All in all, I have to state that this first set was the highlight of the night. It had such great energy, the crowd was amp’d. There even seemed to be a buzz in the air before they even played the first killer note. The tube was a great surprise to start, but very short (^ Ghost, I would love to hear how they could possibly make it shorter than last night, my money is on yes to your question). The Suzy was tight, Reba was so mellowy cool, and I can’t believe I got a FyF. Taste>Circus got my friend, who’s new to Phish, really into this show. The Sparkle had huge energy, I usually hate that song, but not after last night. I take back any disparaging words that I may have uttered in the past. That Antelope is one of the best I have ever heard live or on tape (only my 3rd in person, but magnitudes greater than the others).

Overall, the second set was also amazing. The energy, overall, was down just a bit from the first. I say overall, because that DWD>WtU>Scent was so fuggin ridiculous that they had no hope of keeping such perfection throughout a set. I can’t even begin to describe how amazng that experience was. I haven’t been around as long as many of you, but never have I heard such a great jam in person. During the show I, admittedly, was not familiar with WtU and thought that they had just taken DWD to a new place. That three song series was so seamless and effortlessly crafted by those four gentlemen.

The other second set highlights were Sally and Bug. I liked the new spin on the Groove sandwich, and Sally was the absolute star of the bundle. I would not have thought that Bug could be a great set-ender, but the boys really made it work.

Great venue! Even better show! And damn is was hot. I think I donated a few pints of blood to the East Troy mosquito club.

This SBD is so CRISP
SOunds SICK NASTY

Wish I was there last night
to those who were in attendance you were very lucky
I think last night show really shows how far Phish has come
They are on FIRE

I can’t wait to hear the Disease>What’s the Use. The Tweezer>WTU jam from ‘09 was fantastic, much better than the one of version a few days later. What’s the Use is a segue song, fo’ sho.

that first set, on paper, i believe is my favorite first set of 3.0…

Paper does not do this first set justice. The energy in the place was unreal. It started out kinda low, but man, things just started to take off after the OKP>Suzy.
I think that some of it might have had to do with Fish and his Suzy’isms, but it just seemed like from Suzy on, the energy just grew and grew. The band knew it, and they totally fed off it.
Man, I wish I could go back tonight…:o(

Sorry for the triple post, but can’t delete the last post.
Just wanted to say that I can now cross FyF off, and I got my Sally that I have been “chasing”!
Man, those two alone made last night one of the tops in my book!

I totally agree about the energy. Suzy brought it, and Reba just pushed it into overdrive. The Tube wasn’t great, but it was all uphill from there.

Just realized that in this show alone, I got my first:

-OKP Ceremony
-Fuck Your Face
-Alaska
-Sloth
-Dirt
-Sneakin Sally
-Quinn The Eskimo

Not too shabby at all!

Yeah…hopefully AV2 does not overshadow how amazing this show was!

^ What are your guy’s thoughts on AV1 vs. AV2? Both are amazing shows. I have to give the nod to AV1 - I like it more on paper, and on SBD. The YEM>PIPER!!!>2001 is quite amazing, but I will give my nod to DWD>WtU>Scent.

I will also give the overall nod to AV over DC in a close matchup. But I would give my left nut to see any one of these 4 shows again! What a great tour! Can’t wait to see what Jones Beach has in store.

AV2 over AV1 for me…the Scent was amazing!

Definitely AV over DC when it comes to the show, but Phamily, they were all very special to me.

I gotta go with AV2 this time around. The playing and the energy were just spot on.

All go with…

I was ecstatic this whole night. Out of the gate they were playing harder and faster than any show this leg. This had lot’s of good flow and themes, and a flamboyant song selection. A little more spacey than Tride 1 and all those awsome tunes (but that’s just another reason to love this show). I had a nice 201 middle seat in front of Kuroda. It was a GREAT SHOW! I do think it’s silly to try to say any of these midwest shows was worse than any other. They all said something different to me.
This show had a lot of ladies in it, and a lot of nihlistic fatalism as well. A very intriguing combo indeed. Nothing like the surprisingly feel good vibes and beautiful interplay that came out of the Friday the 13th show. When was the last time that many Junta songs made it into a show? (13th)

Yeah, this second set is The TA-TA’s for sure. Cranked it Last night.

DWD->WTU is straight $$$$!

Bug is one of those tunes where it took a while, but the band has sold me on it. Maybe because it’s a little less played nowadays…I don’t know. But Trey is a monster on this one. He completely rips it apart with some of the most interesting phrasing I’ve heard from him this tour.

And while I am one of those people that has admittedly gotten a bit frustrated with the bands reluctance to step outside the box in 3.0 Mikes, this Mikes absolutely Snarls. It’s way Dirtay!!

Set 2 of this show is right up there with MPP2 set 2, Alpharetta1 set 2, and Greek3 set 2 as one of my favorites of the summer.

The segue out of Disease is really smooth. You can hear Trey pick up on the idea. The interesting thing is that the segue causes What’s The Use to take on a lighter tone than usual. It’s typically such a dark tune, but I feel like this is the most upbeat version I’ve heard. I don’t know if Trey is in a different key than usual or what. Really unique and well executed. And the fade into Scent is perfect. Such a great song choice there.

By the way, the Disease jam that proceeds goes to a really cool place before the segue. There’s about two minutes where everyone locks into this distinct rhythmic Type II groove.

Other highlight that stands out for me is Sally. It’s not the most revolutionary version, but it’s well played all around. Mike’s tone out of the gates is really cool. It’s a more muted tone that the envelope filter, and it sets a great backdrop for everyone else to play on. A short but sweet vocal jam in there as well.

I would definately have to go with AV1, for the simple fact that I was only at night 1. The music that night sounded great, and they just sounded very locked in and the whole second set was just really, really great. The DWD>WtU was the Phish that we all know and love. It was nice to see Trey sit back, listen to the other three, and go with the flow, instead of trying to force it to go somewhere, or cutting it short. On top of that, the Sally sounded tight as hell. I know that it didn’t go “out there”, but like Zoot said, it was tight and very well played, and the segue into Weekapaug sounded really good. Not forced.

But, besides the music, I got to hang with some really great people. Ran into my college roomate that I haven’t seen since I graduated in '99. Couldn’t believe it!!! That was just great! And got to meet and hang with Alpinehead’s friend Nate for the whole first set. Just a really awsome guy! Made the first half of the night great! And to Judson, Doug, Barb, and Pei, (and everyone else I met), it was great to hang with you guys pre-show!
Yup, just a great little corner of the interwebs we got here at the 'Pa.
