The Great Went (Day Two). *With a “Cities” jam. **The band members take turns painting large designs at the side of the stage. Then, the crowd “carries” the pieces of this design to the side of the venue where it is assembled and hoisted for everyone to see onto a tower. This wood tower is tall and covered in painted plywood and has been built during the two shows. As “Harry Hood” goes into its jam, Trey asks Chris to turn the lights off, and the band jams while the front section has a gigantic Glow Stick War. Trey tells the crowd at the end of the jamto “go and get more of those, because that was cool.” #No Muel Duel. ^The entire art tower was burned to the ground.

The way they hook up on this Gin is incredible. It may be the single most beautiful jam ever, and yes that means more beautiful than any Slave or Reba.

Even the lights are perfect.

It is moments like this that inspire me to drive 1000’s of miles across the country “just” to see 4 goofy dudes up on a stage for 3 hours. It is what I live for.

Favorite.
Show.
Ever.

Words cannot describe my feelings for this festival, just…the best.

This Gin is incredible. But still not as good as James Brown on his worst night.

And Dan…I’m going to ignore that. But that is one strike…and believe me I LOVE LOVE LOVE James Brown.

^Have you not seen bittersweet motel? After they play footage from “2001” it shows them walking off stage and Trey says something like “That was almost as good as James Brown on his worst night.”

Oh yeah, I forgot. It’s probably been 10 years since I’ve actually watched it all the way through and not just concert footage. I watched it religiously when it was first released so that kind of burned me out.

The shitty thing about Bittersweet Motel is they don’t capture the magic of this whole period of Phish, the most magical ever. No gin from the went for starters. sheer brilliance. it honestly keeps me from leaving this earth sometimes to know that such bliss is possible and is.

Listening to my favorite show right now.

On Hood.

Not gonna lie, this show and this second set brings out emotions like nothing else.

I listened to this show non-stop when we recorded it from the radio in Dougs camper. I listened to those tapes for years.

Often too.

Then I guess I needed a break.

Haven’t listened to this show is a while to help preserve some of the magic.

I still can’t explain what happened that night in Maine, but it really did change my life.

During Hood my life go turned, flipped upside down.

Damn.

Can’t wait for Fall Tour now…

Furreal. Without a doubt if I had to make a list of three experiences that had the most profound impact on my life, this weekend would be one of them.

EDIT: It was probably cause of Veeder.

^ & ^^ No doubt. Don’t know what Veeder is, but that set was crazy good. So was the adjacent set … third set Buffalo Bill’d?

I think I had a more profound life change at the Clifford Ball, but musically it’s all about the Great Went. My buddy Dan had a nice boom box, D batterie’d that sucka. I listened to those tapes a whooooole lot. They fit nicely on the tapes the way I did 'em too!
