Soundcheck: My Soul, Sugar Shack [Unconfirmed and Possibly Incomplete]

Set 1: Runaway Jim, Wolfman’s Brother[1], Nellie Kane, Beauty of a Broken Heart, Ocelot, Maze, I Didn’t Know > 46 Days, Tube, When the Circus Comes, Sugar Shack, Split Open and Melt, Cavern

Set 2: Golden Age > Piper > Mike’s Song > Simple > Backwards Down the Number Line > Carini > Wilson > Weekapaug Groove, The Horse > Silent in the Morning > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Fluffhead > Loving Cup

Encore: Show of Life, Character Zero

[1] Vocal jam.

Notes: This was the second of three pay per view performances. Wolfman’s contained a vocal jam.

Split Open and Melt was a major face melter! :wtf:

I was rather disappointed with this show. The first time I left a phish show unhappy. So many flubs and aborted jams. Trey was off after the melt ending and never got back on track.

Pros: Nellie Cane and Sugar Shack were nice to hear. Simple contained the only impressive improv.

Cons: Flubs in Maze, Melt, Piper, Mike’s, Fluffhead. Awkward flow and song choice in the second set. Show of Life was the icing on the cake.

I guess shows like this are a reality check, that even the boys are flawed sometimes. Doesn’t shake my belief that they can still produce amazing music. Long Beach second set was beautiful, I am sure more wonderful moments will come out of this leg.

That Simple jam was nice

this thread needs love

beauty of the broken heart and sugar shack made me happy

here are some vids i took. sound is shit as my phone doesnt attenuate when it gets loud and i was pretty damn close.

sugar shack (security yelled at me to stop recording, hence unkind abrupt end)

security told you stop filming with your phone? security? in San Francisco? :shifty:

i know, right

she was one of the couple staion fixed past the barrier. she was the ONLY security i really encountered once in the venue. outside was really no stress either. she was just there per phish security rider (check smoking gun if you havent seen it) and since she was facing the crowd and i was basically 3.5 feet away from her, she prolly felt she had no choice

i dunno, it surprised me too. i am a professional event camera operator and i couldnt even begin to count how many phones i see at all kinds of events. i dont recall ever seeing anyone get told not to. i just think she was bored and had nothing better to do and was facing directly at me a very short distance away

or i pissed her off in another life. i dunno.

ETA: and you know what. i havent been that close to phish while they were playing since like 95. i just walked up and took those shots. ON SATURDAY. for being sold out, there was an awful lot of dancing space all the way to the front. not that that is a bad thing for those inside, it was very very nice, in fact. i could certainly get used to that much dance space. i mostly stay at the back wall, but it was so thin in there, i just walked up and took those videos, then went back to my normal “perch” , not disturbing anyone in the process. it was very cool

Yeah I found this show kind of hard to listen to. The Simple was nice, but a lot of miscues and such. Ah well…next!
