Chaifetz Arena, Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO

Set 1: Punch You In the Eye > Runaway Jim, Ocelot > Reba, I Didn’t Know, The Curtain > Peaches en Regalia > Mound > Sample in a Jar, The Sloth, Camel Walk, Possum > Quinn the Eskimo

Set 2: Chalk Dust Torture -> Frankie Says -> Undermind -> Sand -> Walk Away, Limb By Limb > Julius > Also Sprach Zarathustra, You Enjoy Myself

Encore: Shine a Light

Notes: Before the vacuum solo in I Didn’t Know, Trey introduced Fish as “The John Coltrane of the vacuum cleaner.”

Frankie Says -> Undermind is snazzy business, smooth as butta segue. Sand is super snazzy, and Limb by Limb is excellent, a real must listen.

Loved listening to the LxL through 2001 in my car on a stream, I love doing that…

We were sitting page side and I noticed that as the boys exited for set break I had the perfect spot to run over and shout a song request to them as they went backstage. I was about 10 ft. above them as they walked right under me and I yelled “Hey Page! Shine a light!!! Shine a light, Trey!!!” Then a moment later I yelled out “Hey Mike! Shine a light!!! Shine a light, Fish!! I did the same thing as they left for encore break- I had made sure they had each heard me. When they came back out and trey struck that little tuning check chord I knew they were going to play it. As soon as they started the song me and my girl (who I requested it for) freaked the fuck out, we were over the moon! I had full on goosebumps the whole song and was completely overwhelmed by the love from the band and my girl. We have been a little bit obsessed with the tune after fest8 and totally jealous of anyone who got to hear it since. That encore was the single most magical musical moment I have ever experienced. We used to be jaded at times saying they just play what they want and never/rarely play what we (fans) want to hear, but we cannot say that anymore. I was so high off of that song that I almost forgot to go over and thank the band! I screamed “Thank you Page!!! Thank you Trey!!! Thank you Mike!! Thank you Fish!! I love you guys!! You’re the fucking best!!!” and they are, just the best. Now I play that memory of Trey singing the opening lines “saw you stretched out…” and those warm happy feelings rush over me like waves- god I love this band- that was special.

Fantastic show all around! It was my wife and I’s first indoor show since 2003, my brothers first indoor show and his girlfriends first show period. Ran into friends we had not seen since 2003 Allstate show and had the best time at Chaifetz. Both sets were amazing. Had called the PYITE opener. Had really been hoping for a Curtain With and I was a little bummed about no With but as I sighed “aww” they started Peaches and turned “aww” into “aww yeah!”. CDT>Frankie>Undermind>Sand>Walk Away was great with each segue as smooth and natural feeling as I have experienced in recent shows. LxL was truly something special. They YEM was spot. We were also happy with Shine a light as an encore. My wife and I hadn’t heard it live since Fest8 either. Some very very tight playing from the guys and smiles all around in our section (except for the 2 guys in our row that just stood there with their hands in their pockets all night). Hopefully they come back to STL. It was very nice seeing them within 2 hours of home rather than having to travel 5-8 like usual.

Well I think I should share a little bit of the journey to this show. I am condensing it because I’m tired and don’t really feel like thinking much.

So as a few of you know, I checked the venue ticket office sometime in the afternoon and realized that they had re-released floor seats. I had been waiting on that for months, and for some reason it dawned on me to check it Tues. afternoon. I was eating lunch and realized the Stl show was today not Wed. so I quickly ate and went outside to get cell signal. Keep in mind I had checked for these tickets about 4 times a week the last 2+ months. So this all happened at about 12:30pm est time which is an hour ahead of the time in Stl. So I quickly called my gf to see if she wanted to go but she had plans. Needless to say everyone I called had plans.

So I got on here for motivation  Levi and dooj pretty easily talked me into what I really wanted to do from the beginning and that was driving over to the show. The drive was about 5 hours and I got there just in time for the show. I ended up about 8 people back dead center from Trey . When you solo a show, it never fails that people are extremely excited to talk to you. I met some really cool couples from Chicago and Mississippi and the short wait for Set I began.

The PYITE opener was very tight and a great way to start this show. The energy in the building was unbelievable, something that only small arena’s can provide I think. The first 3 songs, while sometimes considered standard were very good. I was a bit worried when Ocelot started, only b/c I had a feeling it was going to be a “standard” show played really well. Those songs were played nearly 10 mins each which imo is a treat and I really liked the way Ocelot is starting to develop.

The Reba was very solid and I got the first whistling ending I’ve personally seen. IDK was great but one of the best highlights of set one for me was the Curtain>Peaches. Seeing as though they have only not played with 4 times since the inception of /With, that pause where your waiting to see if the band will dive deeper of segue into a new song had me holding their breath. Going into peaches was a great way to sans the /with. While it may not have been the best version of the song, it was great. The guy I met from Miss actually told me before the show hes been chasing a Peaches since '97, and tonight was the first night he got his wish. I was extremely happy for him.

I’m writing too much, quick finish to set 1. I am bored with mound. I saw it at Cinncy in '11 and outta the last 7 times they have played it I’ve been there for 3 of them. The sloth was a bit off when it started but worked itself out nicely. I know we are all getting tired of Possum, but the >Quinn really picked up the energy and was nicely done.

I have seen CDT so many times over the past few years that when set 2 started I was a little disappointed, but thats only until it starting the decent down the cold granite steps. Frankie Says was fantastic. The song was played due in large part to a guy in the stands on Fish’s side who held it up as the band was walking off after set 1. I noticed Mike look up at something and then realized it was the sign. Undermine was also a nice welcoming change for a set 2 this leg. Not a huge fan of the song but the way it was worked in was great. Sand wasn’t extremely exploratory but was played very well into Walk Away. The crowd started to lose its shit when Walk Away started, I think CDT>Walk Away was phenomenal. Then came the fucking LxL. Saw it early this summer at DC2 when the asshole held up the “Chinese Warhol” Sign and killed the energy of the set. Needless to say I was a bit bummed, but then…did they change songs 2 times?? No, that was one nasty LxL. Being there I remember thinking, what the fuck are they doing, with a huge ass smile on my face. But just to let everyone know they were still playing it, the dropped back into it for 30 sec’s to finish it off.

Julius>2001 was another very good segment of the show. Personally, the YeM was my favorite part of this show. Not necessarily because it was musically better than the early parts of Set 2, but because its not only my 2nd favorite song of all time, behind A day in the Life(Beatles version), but because the crowd, band, glowsticks, lights, everything was just perfect. The smiles on everyone’s face when this song started was priceless. Show of Life was a great 1 song ender. It kind of just put the cherry on top of an already unbelievable sundae.

So theres my not so short synopsis of the show. I drove the 5 hours back that night and got in about 5:30am. I was exhausted the next 2 days but it was so so worth it. If I don’t make it to NYC for NYE this year, this was def. a show that will hold me over until the big things '13 have in store for us.

Second set =

^This man tells the truth… This was my 50th show, and one to remember. Really couldn’t have asked for more. Like wow. Very fun first set with a nice song selection, but the sencond set is what sets this apart. had the real awesome indoor Phish vibe to it. Stand out versions of chalkdust and LxL. I will say that this is easily one of the best Limbs ever played. Serious business here folks. This one had me tearing up. Not a single lull in that set. Frankie says was GREAT to hear and a really standout version IMO. Sand -> Walk Away was great. Sand followed the typical 3.0 style with straight forward hard hitting funk > rock jam, and walk away well… it ripped. Its probably my 2nd favorite not-so-rare cover (aside from light up) and they did it WAY MORE than justice this nite. I drove from CLT and ate some of my favorite food in the world the day before (rocky’s hot chicken shack in asheville) and then partied at the hotel all day b4 with some awesome first leg friends. Then after the show i came to the realization that i had to drive 8+ hours to OKC in the next 20 or so hours i decided i should probably roll outta that town. well, some really cute girls kinda put a damper on that for me and didn’t end up gettin outta town till 3 or 4 AM. Well worth the side trip i dipped out of there when i had the chance and said bye to my friends, who were flying to OKC (pussies), and made my leave. I then drove until i couldn’t possibly drive anymore and got a room at the holiday inn in the middle of nowhere for half price because i would only need about 6 hours there (which was nice, super awesome lady working) and called it a night. Wow didn’t mean to type that much but this was a special show for me and everything that happened around was more perfect than i could have imagined. Anyway yeah thats about it
