The second set here is probably my favorite second set of fall '99. Honestly it is phish perfection. A peaches opener, THE bag, a jammed out gumbo, an overlooked but ragingly celebratory disease, and a Frankenstein to cap it all off! Just a phenomenal show. Another example of phish throwing it down to an undersold, out of the way show.

The first set isn’t anything special but the second set is why I see phish.

I think this show overall is great. I don’t listen to the first set that much, but I always seem to listen to the second set all the way through. The jam in AC/DC Bag always leaves me wondering what song I am still listening to.

As far as I’m concerned, there are really only 3 "Bag"s:

This one, Hampton 97, MSG 97.

It’s like Foreman, Frazier and Ali.

Er something.

They were offering floor upgrades for 3 dollars at the box office. No one was there. Well I guess a bunch of people I know were there! This was one of those fantastic stories of " Hey let’s go to that out of the way show and the boys will throw down for us". And they did!

Another one Bites the Dust jam!!!

I would beg to differ. 8-9-98 bag would too. I will take that 8-9-98 bag over Hamptron 97 allllllll day. This version is obviously the king and MSG 97 is a close second.

Titties

Anyone have a decent recording of this one?

The Bag is in here

Phish kicked off their fall 1999 tour in Vancouver, followed by a two-night stand at The Gorge and a Sunday show in Portland. Tickets for Phish cost $26.50 with a GA floor and reserved seating in the stands. This was the band’s second show at this venue (they had opened summer 1995 there) and their last show to-date in Idaho.

Boise’s Set I kicked off with Chalk Dust Torture and featured The Curtain > Waste, a dramatic sequence of Loving Cup > What’s The Use? and Wading In The Velvet Sea > Farmhouse, and a hot Taste. The mostly non-stop set II began with the first Peaches en Regalia in more than two years, followed by an AC/DC Bag for the ages. This Bag was a tour de force of multi-modal improvisation culminating in a psychedelic freakout so far Out that swirling vacuum ambiance was the only way to wrap it. The Boise Bag spilled over into a standout Gumbo with a slow funk Another One Bites The Dust jam that cemented Boise’s snooze-you-lose status. A frenetic Down With Disease > Frankenstein (with a nod to Pink Floyd) capped the set. The encore was Simple with a live fade-out that gave the band time to move downstage for an A cappella Hello My Baby to close out a magical night at BSU.

On Saturday I put this second set on and bopped along on the treadmill until the set was over. This ACDC Bag is everywhere you want to be. Nice pick, LivePhish.
