Crazy.

As is often the case with many supposedly alarming statistics, I HIGHLY doubt this.
People underestimate the large amount of people in this country who are NOT accounted for in a lot of these types of polls.

i think it might be right.i was watchibg a show last night about correction facilities.they said that america has 2.3 miliion inmates. more than any other country.
2.3 million adults in jail at the start of 2008?
God that’s high. Jeez.
Well if 1 in 4 phish members has been in jail, I don’t find 1 in 100 americans that tough to believe.
I believe Cactus spent at least some time in jail in 2003…
lmfao you know how to makem laugh goldenroad
Wow that’s weird. I just had a dream that I was in jail. It was a 1.5 year sentence for being in a car that had pot in it. It was very sad. But it was co-ed, so that was pretty cool.
If jail was co-ed that 1 in 100 number would be a hell of a lot higher.
For many people jail is quite preferable to living on the outside. Free food, shelter, heat, exercise… plus chicks dig it.
This thread makes me think of the few people I know who are currently in jail.
One of them just went away this month…for 3 years. Ouch.
For me, living in jail is 1/100th times more preferable to life not in jail.
i wonder what % of those locked-up are in there for a non-violent drug offense
all of the people I know are, haha
and that just plain 'ole sucks.
it’s such a waste of tax dollars. america is the most intellectually and morally bankrupt nation on the planet. the amount of money we piss away on stupid shit is ridiculous. futhermore, let me just say FUCK THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE!!! these stupid bastards pretty much keep meaningful reform from actualizing within their occupation.
bitter much?
no, i’m a soc/crim major and the fop pretty much resists any change even when empirical research overwhelming suggests policy changes. for example, for over 30 years, researchers have concluded that drugs/drug use cannot be controlled. however, we do know that drug-related violence is something that can and has been controlled and we know effective strategies for controlling this violent crime.
however, police organizations like the fop are too caught up in their conservative views and their devotion to ‘law and order’. more or less, you have a group of people who are not very booksmart going against overwhelming research that suggests changes that they don’t want to make or hear.
so maybe i am bitter. i am bitter because i am working my ass off in school and i’m about to go to grad school and i know that no matter how hard i work or how overwhelming my research is, some alpha-male, high school graduate, vo-tech certificate having pig is going to ignore and defy anything that will actually benefit society.
^ i know a couple cops and you’re pretty much dead-on about the fop mentality. i’ve tried to have respectful, intelligent debates with them on the insanity of the drug laws of our country and they simply CANNOT see beyond the fact that “it’s illegal”, even in a hypothetical manner. talk about banging your head against a wall.
i am fully aware that i am the biggest, most-bitter asshole on this message board.
Only since Greg doesn’t come around much.
