Notes: This version of Coil appears on A Live One.

This show starts out with a smoking Runaway Jim that they keep short a very sweet. As I listened to this Foam I was reminded of how this song used to build into such a fury before stopping on a dime. Nowadays not so much…it’s lacking something. The Split Open and Melt doesn’t come close to any of the versions from the Summer 94 tour. Obviously you’ve heard this Coil and it’s a beaut.

The Bowie second set opener is amazing. It was one of those jams where you’re pretty convinced these four guys are really aliens that can use telepathic speech. They just seem to know exactly what each of the other three is about to do. There is one section right before the end of the song where Fish and Page just start playing the exact same rhythm out of nowhere, then they all bust back into Bowie theme with the screaming guitar line. Very nice. They take a slight detour during the Mule Duel thanks to Page which is very cool to hear. The YEM is as funky as it gets for mid-90’s, with them settling into an awesome groove around the 13:00 mark, featuring Page on the new clav. Possum is Possum, but still very sweet and a great way to end the set.
