Thursday, 10/27/1994 University Hall, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA

Set 1: Wilson, Sparkle, Maze, Colonel Forbin’s Ascent -> The Vibration of Life -> Fly Famous Mockingbird, The Divided Sky, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Poor Heart, Cavern

Set 2: Julius, Ya Mar, Tweezer, Contact, Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, Down with Disease, Sweet Adeline

Encore: Slave to the Traffic Light -> Icculus, Tweezer Reprise[1]

[1] Seriously extended ending.

Notes: Miscommunication within the student-run venue staff led to a prematurely signalling for the second set to end. Following an extended break to “discuss” the matter with staff, the band returned for an unusually long encore. Tweezer Reprise alone featured an extended ending almost deserving of a separate entry.

This show is pretty good, but if you’re into extended jams, type II if you prefer, this is not the place to look. The Tweezer is as close as it gets as is the little jam at the end of Tweezer Reprise. But other than that they stay pretty close to home. Not a bad thing, the Maze shreds and the Forbins>Vibration of Life>Mockingbird is awesome and Trey has a beautifully awesome solo during Divided Sky. The second set though is weird…even before the miscue with the venue staff. The encore is really something to check out though. The Slave is magic and segues into Icculus (always always always a treat) and the end of Tweezer Reprise is cool.
