[1] Star Wars jam.

Notes: During Bike, Fishman made reference to the new dress he was given that afternoon and wore to the show. Antelope included a Star Wars jam right before the transition into Sleeping Monkey. Buffalo Bill was played for the first time since November 21, 1992 (224 shows).

I can’t believe nobody has commented on this show…do you guys even listen to Phish? This show is awesome and I’m so glad I have a better copy of the show compared to the one I had on tape years ago. The quality was really bad yet I still listened to it quite often. You can even tell from My Friend they’re fired up and the energy carries through the entire show. The Sparkle->Simple in the 2-3 spot is getting a little predictable this tour, but at least this time, for the first time, they tack on a short little jam on the end of Simple. It’s essentially only a little guitar solo but it’s pretty cool nonetheless. You can tell from the energy in the song they really liked this tune. Then they slam right into another blistering Runaway Jim (I hate to say it, but I really wish Trey still played like this). The knee-jerk Foam follows Jim and a short little breath for Lawn Boy, which was only played a handful of times in 1994, before the awesomeness that is SOAM->Buffalo Bill->Makisupa->Rift. The jam in SOAM is fucking awesome and segues very nicely into Buffalo Bill. It come out of nowhere yet doesn’t sound disjointed at all. For a few seconds it sounds like they’re going into Have Mercy (Mike’s playing that bassline) but they steer it into Makisupa. Not nearly the dick-tease that was the Columbus 2000 Have Mercy tease, in which they followed with Bug.

That’s just the first set. The DWD->TMWSIY>Avenu>TMWSIY>Sparks if fucking awesome. I love Sparks and wish they’d bust that one out. The YEM is a goodin too, I really like the way the song evolved during this tour. Antelope>Sleeping Monkey>Antelope is also awesome, even if you don’t like Sleeping Monkey. I’ve listened to this segue several times and I still don’t understand how they get from the frantic Antelope jam to Sleeping Monkey…very cool. Oh yes and a nice 94 Hood encore taboot? Fuck yes…all this the night BEFORE the first Halloween show.

I dug this one up not too long ago myself. This is one of my favorite 94 shows to listen to because of the segues and sheer fun that is being had two days before these guys unload 3 sets of music containing what like, 34 songs in the White Album til 3am. I still think that they are going to go into Have Mercy everytime I listen.

It still blows my mind how much Phish destroyed shit during a demanding tour while trying to learn almost note-for-note and word-for-word the entire White Album for chrissakes! And then continue touring their asses off with challenging experimentation two days later for a month or so. It’s the kind of stuff legends are made of.

Yes…good show.

The Makisupa->Rift transition was Phish.net’s mystery jam today. Got it! SOaMelt->BB->Makisupa->Rift is definitely worth checking out. The transition makes me wonder if the band had worked out the segue between Makisupa->Rift beforehand. I

YEM is hot. I like the Jim too.
