10-30-10 Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ

I have dubbed it: CHALKDUSTTA LOVE

So damn good. Might be my favorite Chalkdust.

Yes,…good call

I still giggle every time I read this.

This has been a weird show to figure for me. Energy-wise it was def a top ten show for me, and I love that first set. Chalkdust is straight fire, can’t believe how good that was. I’ve been listening to set 2…it’s obvious the effort is there at first. Tube is really good actually.

the Zep segment before Halley’s’ is tough to listen to on tape for me. It’s just too sloppy, especially Trey. The energy was unmatched BEING THERE, but listening back to it I’d rather of had a 16-20 minute tweezer with sick funk and a nice peak.

Numberline, without the possibility of going into a crazy jam like SPAC 09, is a song I don’t think I’ll ever like. Way too cheesy lyrics  . The Rothbury acoustic version brought tears to my eyes. Now it doesn’t do much for me.

So that and show of life at the end of that set is what’s making me wonder how much I really like this show. Nothing THAT noteworthy happened in halleys/2001/bowie. Bowie was solid though.

Great build-up show for 10-31…just a classic! 2001 could have gotten crazy good…but solid as hell!

I would disagree. This 2001 is probably my favorite of 3.0. It’s a close call between this and Camden. But the fact that this jam reached greatness through pure, original Phish makes me lean toward the AC one.

In the end though, this is what really matters.

I feel the same way about the Roxy show. I hate listening to this show because it’s sloppy as hell for most of it. But it’s an awesome piece of Phish history and when I do occasionally listen to that show I think of how fucking incredible it must have been to be there.

Also, I appreciated listening to the 10/30 show at home a lot more once I got the aud recording. The sbd just doesn’t capture the energy in that place as well. The first time I listened to the sbd I thought “hey that was cool” but when I listened to the aud I got the chills.

yeah but 2001 has been almost completely standard and in general not long or crunchy enough in 3.0, so there’s not much to compare it to

camden is better though :sunglasses:

Pre-hiatus was even better :smiling_imp:

^Truth.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, but this version just made me very happy because 2001 is returning to its full health, without the use of others material.

I agree with this too. Nothing will ever beat 11-19-97 in my book. Still though is that not true with pretty much every song?

LIstening to this show for the first time since being there, and holy shit, is it a great first set so far. Am at the Undermind, and it is probably the first let down of the set, and it’s not even that bad a version of a song that doesn’t do much for me.

But geez did they come out to play some rock and roll this night? Gad, the KDF Cavern>Foam Guelah was just so well executed, so right one in every way. And the kick-ass got better right after that.

Going to listen to some more of it before blathering on.

Kill Devil Falls, Cavern > Foam, Guelah Papyrus, Chalk Dust Torture -> Whole Lotta Love[1] > Chalk Dust Torture, Ha Ha Ha, Walk Away, Wolfman’s Brother[2] -> Undermind > Bathtub Gin[3], The Squirming Coil

I’m sorry, this was one helluva great set. Except for the HaHaHa and maybe the Undermind, everything else was high energy and tight as hell. Just a solid set of Phish.

One thought did occur to me as the set progressed. Before the KDF was over, I had the recognition that in much the same way Faulty Plan was a regurgitation of Character0, KDF was of Chalk Dust. When I heard the Cavern, and how much it seemed that they were on a rocking thread, it made sense that Chalk Dust would be in the set as well. Reminded me that I thought the same thing the night I was there.

Was pleasantly surprised by the Guelah both times since it seemed like the perfect respite between the two.

Love this set.

Wot the f is wrong with me?? Must be getting senile, or just plain stoopit.

I attend one of the best shows of 3.0, and all I can talk about is some kids who also knew it was a good show? With very few exceptions, and yes, assuming the sloppiness of the Zep songs inside the Tweezer, this show was incredibly above average. The band was really involved in each number. The Zepplin stuff kept the playfulness going which kept them connected through the show. Same energy sparked at Guyutica.

But really, I’m berating myself for losing the handle on this show. Must have been our Halloween plans with the family the next night that distracted me from the glow of this show. I’ve gotten to hear two of the best of 3.0 so far, this show and Camden 09.

How about that BDTNL? They de-constructed it, almost like a Stash. And found the handle, almost blowing it, to bring it back home. My favorite version of this song at the moment.

Yea this first set is primo…best set of the run no doubt

I have considered, since the third of April 1998, that when the Tweezer Reprise ended the second show of the Island Tour, I had experienced one of, if not the best, ending of any rock concert I had ever been to. To this day, I have a “best of” disk from the show, that contains the Piper, Loving Cup, Antelope, Carini, Halleys, Tweeeprise, that I grab down from the shelf several times throughout the year because of its impact on my general happiness.

I now have a second, ‘one of, if not the best, endings of any rock concert I have ever been to’. My third disk from this 10/30/10 show contains the Bowie, Show of Life, BDTNL, GTBT, Sleeping Monkey, Tweeprise, and I’m now of the opinion that I will need to hear this disk on a very regular basis as well.

Look, I may be kidding myself, seeing as how I’ve spent a whole lifetime at it, but I really believe that this show was something very special, really, from start to finish. The band was so incredibly happy to be playing this night, and it was demonstrated in more than all of the Zepplin tunes and teases. It was demonstrated in their unbridled joy and energy in the music that was played.

I know I’m going to be a pain in the ass about this show until the next great show comes along, so I apologize for my obsessiveness in advance. It’s just really so good.

I love this show too

Disagree with the way LivePhish broke the tracks within the Tweezer as if each of the LZ tunes were full versions of the songs. I would have kept the Tweezer intact and annotated the teases in the notes.

But that’s all I have as far as a complaint about this show.

I wonder how many people Mike force-BM’d with that bomb in Twee-prise?

It’s gotta be some sort of world record, right?

Sounds good on my system (get the aud)…but NOTHING like that brown note in Piper 12/30/11.
Man, I wish I went to this show.

Still the most energetic and best time I’ve had at a show in the new era.

Oh B of such bigness, your brief yet powerful comment, provides such important validation of this show for me. I respect your Phish ear with all due reverence.
