10/31/95...... Does it get any better?

“10/31/95 Does it get any better?”

Yes. 1993. In another thread I said “best”, but after thinking about it, maybe I should have said “most interesting”.

Off the top of my head, I can think of 05/05, 08/06, 08/09, 08/14, 08/28.

I would say that these are the most INTERESTING You Enjoy Myself’s.

05/05 is fairly standard and playful for the written out part, but the jam with ARU and the Dude of Life is just insane. I have definitely not heard a moment of Phish ever sound like that again. Unique!

08/06 as I mentioned in the other thread I listened to today, so it is the most fresh in my mind. Tequila teases throughout the entire song (and the set) would make this an interesting YEM alone. But then they run through a few lines of “Cocaine” (the song ;D), and then the vocal jam. Tweezer lyrics in the beginning of the vocal jam, and then some “Cocaine” scatting by Trey. Topped with a very nice vocal segue into Halley’s Comet.

08/09 I have mentioned a few times in other places (F.M.F.). Smoke on the Water jam, Speed Racer quotes, Psycho Killer vocal jam. Yadda yadda yadda…

08/14 Very fun B.M.G.S. section. You can tell Trey is feeling it this night. Some Oye Como Va teases throughout the beginning half of the song, and then another Smoke on the Water jam (another as in they did it 08/09). Then Trey starts singing The Pretenders “Mystery Achievement” (“Don’t breathe down my NECK no… sliiide sliiide sliiiide”).

Welll… I’m doing a lot of these from memory… And I honestly don’t remember 08/28 at the moment… so take that one off the list for now.

But chew on those for the moment…

I really must hear more shows…

As for the 8/14 YEM i must pitch in and say I don’t like this version comparitively speaking. It’s the weakest LivePhish CD YEM I think, Mcnichols/Rosemont/Omni all definitely beat it. But what are some of your favorite vocal jams? That is the question about this song I can be most decisive about, because 10/31/96 downtown at the Omni while I was being a little idiot bitch trick or treating 15 minutes away has the best vocal jam… it stands above all the others I’ve heard. And I have about 25 hours (71 versions) of this song, so if theres a specific version (that isn’t live phish or post hiatus cause those are livephish too) you want to hear I can host it for you guys to download somehow to listen to. This is my favorite Phish song so im glad to do it.

Well I just gave 12/09/95 a listen and holy shit, this thing really is good. I am not going to say that it beats 10/31/95 yet though. I have liked that Halloween one for too long to bump it out of first. 12/09/95 really is a close second for me though.

I’ll take 12.9.95 over ween 95 any day.

Yeah. How it is for me is that the initial 8 minutes or so of the jam are better than 12/9/95 reached, but 12/9/95 is good throughout. I honestly don’t like the last 20 minutes or so of 10/31/95 much at all.

I think 11/28/97 is my favorite YEM that is not from fall of 95. I just picked up a nice soundboard of this show.

The YEM from 11-28-97 is hot! Has anyone heard the YEM from 7-31-97?!?!?! :o

10-31-95 is definitely one of my favorites…Incredible Version!!!

Indeed! 7.31.97 is a complete mind-bender.

RivShark: 5.5.93, 8.9.93 and 7.19.03 are also must-hears

Does 7/19/03 go into any type 2?

Not really, its just a solid groove that weaves through a few different themes. I just love the interplay between Page, Trey and Mike in that version. There’s also no bass solo at the end…it just fades into the vocal jam.

The jam is similar to the previous night’s down with disease, which I also LOVE.

Theres a yem from summer 98 that really stands out in my mind too…I’m thinking its 7.25 or 7.26, in Texas.

Yeah, actually they stopped doing the B&D section regularly from about 99 onwards and just faded into the vocal jam.

Yup just dowloaded 7/19/03, and wow, I love this YEM. Thanks for recommending this show, great all round.

Yes.

(answering thread question)

;D

Hi, I suppose after reading the latest surf mag, I’ll give the director my serpant detector, a mud rack reflector, a ribbon reflector a cushion convector a picture of nector a viral detector a homo collector… thanks, from hippity hop

Wow…

Starting off with a quadruple… My friend, I think you will fit in fine here.

And it still gets better than 95-10-31.

Off the top of me head, the '89 LP ->Possum is superb.

YES! Absolute funk-fest YEM style. That’s my favorite from '97 hands down. I have trouble deciding on an all time favorite.
