11/14/95 Show Discussion Thread

I actually listen to 12.14.95’s first set more than the second. It contains some of my favorite versions of Makisupa, Suzy and Foam. just sayin

whatever. ::slight_smile:

:o I’m speechless.

I think the show is amazing! I want more LivePhish releases… more 97 and some 99 would be nice too. I can’t get enough of this stuff

THIS SHOW IS NOT AS GOOD AS 10-14-95

RUNS

Fluffheeeeeeeeeaaaad.

If you really dig jams over compositional stuff the closing jam after the ending ‘Fluffhead’ chorus is exceptional on 02-20-93.

I do. I really, really do. I was actually thinking of this yesterday, and was going to post it in Phish Confessions, but this place seems better than any.

I like the first set as much, if not more, than the second. But that just goes to show how great that show really is.

BTW they played most of the 2nd set on sirius last night, I only caught the last 15 minutes
or so but it sounded sweet. I’ll have to check out the rest of the show.

HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE WITH ME YOU PEONS YOU DON’T KNOW A GOD DAMN FUCKING BITCHING THINNGGGG ABOUT PHISH ARRRRGGGLLLLLE BARRRGLLLEEEEEE

::hyperventilates, tries to lock thread and every thread ever, and passes out::

They actually do play the main Immigrant Song riff in YEM. It’s possible that it’s in a different key, but I don’t think it is. Anyway, it doesn’t last very long, and by no means is it one of the greatest teases ever, but it’s still cool nonetheless.

I think they might be getting ready to play set II in it’s entirety at livephish.com. I’m not sure though, I may have misheard. Just a head’s up.

OK, I just lied to everyone’s faces. Sorry 'bout that.

I’m not sure what the hell was going on.

Just to put this out there… anyone care to do a trade or bnp for this show? I needs it and ain’t got the download ability. Or is there a way to purchase a hard copy?

Same w/ the 12-29-97… but we can do one show at a time…

PM me if you wish.

I’d be glad to send you my old copies, Goldphish. I just don’t have a burning program right now that works well.

I know I’ve got two copies of 12.29.97 and I have the Livephish 11.14.95 tracks on my labtop. Maybe I can see if I can burn those files onto cds using Media Player or something.

Either way I could get you decent copies of both shows no problem, but you probably want the LIVEPHISH ones I bet.

I just got around to listening to this show in its entirety tonight. Its an obvious Gem. Normal opening fanfare w/ a ripping Chalkdust. Machine gun Trey all over it.

If anyone were to ask me what makes this first set above average, I’d have to say its the Divided sky/Esther/Free segment, and the Esther in particular. I enjoyed it so much that when I finished listening to the first set, I went back and listened to Esther again before moving onto the second.

Listening to it I couldnt help but think what fools we were to have witnessed true masterpieces like this back in the day and have the nerve to term them “Standard”. Gorgeous, Fucking Gorgeous.

Free, to me, is an important tune between 95 and 96, and I think its because its an example of the band consciously trying to get away from Trey leading the band. I could be wrong there. But this versions a Pagefest nonetheless. Aint nothing wrong with that!

Wookies Can’t play Chess!!

The second set blisters! What a fucking Maze!(Random Vocal screeches by Trey in the Jam)

While at times , Fishman instinctively following Trey is all over this set, his ideas are brilliant. He Chops down WOOD in this Maze and all over the stashfest! Speaking of the Stash, I love the playful Harmonics Trey plays during the Maybe so,Maybe not portion as they get into the jam, and cant help but smile when I hear him giggle. Does anyone else hear the 25 or 6 to 4 tease by Trey as the Jam starts to cook? There’s a few things I hear or may just be imagining.

I know DEG is speculated in alot of Jams, especially 95 Tweezers.
Maybe I’m trying too hard to find it, but around the 10 minute mark, It sounds like a DEG(or at leat a variation) to me. After a sick Stash peak, a Percussion Jam starts, and Mike is the first to initiate the Manteca. Awesome, just Awesome. Page chimes in with some heavy Synth layering. Trey cranks up the Manteca Riff and its one big Crab in my Shoe Mouth. In the outro I hear more 25 /6 to 4 . Man this Jam is sick! All of a sudden…

Bam! Esther! This band is the fucking best. I know alot of people prefer the direct Stash->Manteca (date escapes me), but this is the hottest stash I’ve ever heard! No wonder my boys who went to Florida Atlantic Univ. always rub this show in my face. The Esther jam peaks and gets real heavy and dark. Eventually this gritty jam levels out and Trey starts up DFB. Now most would call this a capella. But the cacophonous sounds in the backround make it darker and much eerier. Almost like a song/chant. DFB ends and its feedback and electronic noise time. To quote a line from Dazed and confused,“you couldnt handle that shit on strong acid”.

From the wall of sound Stash re-emerges. What a 30+ minutes of music. Unbelievable. Its worth the price of download by itself.
Strange design cools us all off, and then YEM caps this amazing set off. and this YEM is almost as noteworthy as the Stash. The beginning is pretty damn near flawless. I hear the immigrant song jam as much as I heard the 25/6 to 4 in the Stash ,but maybe thats just me. Either way it clearly rips. Eventually gives way to a mean bass solo from Mike. This set is vintage 95 Phish.

Well, thats my .02$. I am happy I DL’d this.

Phish is Pretty Good. :stuck_out_tongue:

I honestly think the 12/1 show is better.

Just got this CD last night. Love the Stash jam…I do agree with you “Artist Formally Known as…”… it does sound like “25 or 6 to 4”…

Anyways…several highlights for me on here – too many to mention. Awesome CD (yes you can buy it on CD!!!).
