12.02.99

i was at this one (of course, it was at the Palace), and somehow i forgot how absolutely stunning this show, especially the 2nd set, ESPECIALLY the Gin (dear, dear Lord), really was. this second set is easily on par with 11-17-97 set 1 or 12-07-97 set 1 or really any of the big, heavy hitters.

this being the starting point of their winter '99 tour, they open with a bang as they morph songs like Jibboo, Gin and 2001 into the most badass millenium-space style jamming. crisp, funky and nothing less than Cosmic. the YEM contains a Divided Sky-style silent segment, building the tension into the release of a very slick and sinister jam that ends in a vocal jam that is almost symphonic in nature. much like the Slip, Stitch and Pass show, this was nothing short of an evolutionary landmark. you can feel them teasing us with what was to be the concert event of a lifetime less than a month away.

truly, this show may be (somehow, unexplainably) a very overlooked gem, as i don’t recall much if any discussion about it. well worth the time and effort to listen. one of the best shows i’ve ever heard.

Here Here! Love the jam in Yem with the chanting.

I can just see bigb perking up anytime someone types “99” on this site.

I have not heard this show, but there’s aspects of the December '99 tour that I love.

There’s aspects of…Boston… that I love, ya know?

This is a show I’d really like to hear. I have the five shows after it, 12.11, 12.16 and 12.18, but not the tour opener.

I see you don’t have 12/17.

This is a GOOD thing. What an atrocious show, IMO.

by all means get, or at least stream this one. 12.02.99: Sure To Cure Phish Apathy!

yep.
12-02-1999 is SOLID.
a

I don’t get it. Did you just feel like talking about this show, or are they going to release it??

p.s. What’s so bad about 12/17??

I’m guessing he just listened to it today and it brought back some good memories or something.

Not too long ago I listened to 12/17 and was sorely disappointed. The whole reason I decided to give it a try was the fact the first set, on paper, didn’t actually look that bad. It is. And 33.3% of the second set is either “Character Zero” or “Jennifer Dances,” which isn’t good (to me, anyway). The encore wasn’t half bad, but overall this show is certainly among the worst I’ve ever heard.

great tour opener! yem freakin smokes!

for one the setlist sucks…

I was at this show. I remember that I wasnt gonna go at first. I had my Big Cypress tix, and was gonna hold off on shows until then. Im sooo glad my buddy talked me into it.

who knows, they might release it some day i suppose?
but i just felt like talking about it, really.

you should listen to it greg, and write up a proper review. that Gin would give you plenty to work with. plus i’ll give you a Twix Bar if you do.

Wow, a Twix Bar?!

I’ve actually been on a August '93 kick lately heh.

then i guess all you get is an old potato.

12-2-99 is SO SO underrated! I was front row and my mind =blown

^were you the one starting all the threads? I knew I’d seen you before! Nice!!!

Little drummer boy right as the Christmas season was starting was cool. It put me in a good mood. I remember seeing a lot of people from highschool at this show. It freaked me out. Or maybe the drugs freaked me out. I don’t know, I was freaked out. whoa. crazy. cool. freaked.

I just listened to this show the other day.

Great, great stuff! The “Gin” in particular!
