12.29.97

This is the second show I’ve downloaded off of etree. I havent even listened to the yem and good times to end the show, but I can conclude that I love this show. Second set: dwd>bowie>possum tube yem. This set is long and jammed out. Very cool dwd and possum. A slow tube that is pretty sweet also. The first set flows perfectly from song to song. The three song beginning is segued, with a rare crossroads to end it. Train Song Theme>fluff dirt runlike an antelope ends the set. This ending is perfect!!! Nice theme into a nearly perfect fluffhead!! The next antelope played was the famous carini antelope of 4.3.98, but this antelope is nearly as good. The stretched out third section with a reggae/funk breakdown is really sweet.
Also, I think dirt is my favorite phish ballad. I always hear this song at the right time. It is so beautiful! Perfect vocals from mike, page, and trey–and I love treys rif from this song.
Was anyone at this show?
Anyone heard this?
This show may seem average compared to the next night, but it is not one to pass up!!

I was at this run and this night is stellar. The second set is ridiculous…the Can’t Turn You Loose teases make it fun and the playing is spot on. You mentioned some great moments post-hiatus. This show is excellent all around.

Two things about this show for me…My buddy and I had an extra that we gave to a high school friend of his who had never seen Phish let alone heard them before. Needless to say, he was floored. We all were. This night and 12/30 are some of my favorites of shows I’ve been to.

The other thing was one of those phishy coincidences. My brother also had tickets to this show. We were supposed to meet up pre-show at The Blarney Rock. We never did as he missed his train and got held up on Long Island…my buddy and I had spent the previous night in the city. Anyway, I was a little bummed.

So the show is ripping and they bust into Crossroads and I lost it. Now the thing is, my brother who plays guitar and I, who play drums, used to jam in our backyard when we were younger and Crossroads was one of the few tunes we could play start to finish. So, when the opening notes rang out through MSG, I went bezerk. When we finally did hook up after the show, we ran screaming towards one another and embraced screaming, “Can you believe tonight?” Can you believe they did Crossroads?" Oh man…what a night.

As I said, and you did to post-hiatus, Set II is a face melter…a continuous flow and smooth segues. Great friggin show. In comparison I think the 29th and 30th were two completely different shows. Obviously in setlists, but specifically in song selection, jamming and vibes. At least to me they were. Great choice.

There are lots of single show threads in Live Phish that I never noticed before. These will definitiely have to be moved to Individual Show Discussion. And we’ll really have to focus on only starting one thread per show.
I downloaded the 97 New Year’s run months and months ago. Every show finished downloading except for 12-29. I have had that torrent open on etree since then. Every once in awhile a few slivers of musical bliss would download, but it never finished. Now Augustus and those other cool cats at etree have the new source up, and the download took a few hours. FINALLY. I need to get that show on some CDs and listen right away.

Me like.

Gamecat like alot.

edit: This TUBE is so choice.

How does the video look, though??

^That’s what I want to know too. This is the picture that Phish.com is posting along with this. If it is an actual screen shot, it doesn’t look half bad.

i was drunk and bored enoughto payto download the video. I didnt like the price it should be the same as the audio files in my opinion but its stillreally good. Even at full screen it doesnt take up myentiremonitor but the qualityis reallygood. Not full screen is how i chose to watchit and it looks really great.

I just got this show off etree as well, and I must agree with everything that was said above. I think I am going to pay for the copy on livephish, for the quality. This really is a great show, I am loving the tube right now.

finally downloaded the mp3 (piss off $3 extra for FLAC isnt worth it)
and got the videos… gonna give em a listen today

will report later on quality

I just downloaded the video for two reasons. One, I wanted it for myself, and two I put it on my two best friends Ipods as a Xmas gift. . I downloaded one of the video tracks from 12/31/95 when that became available and was disappointed with the quality. Not so with this video release. I recommend. ;D

^Cool. That’s basically what I was wondering. I don’t know why they released that NYE '95 video, it was teh same bootleg that we already had, just officialized. I may pick up this 12-29 video, since I have a decent copy of the audio already.

I find FLAC to be well worth the extra $3. I want my livephish in the absolute best audio quality they offer.

can the video be burned to dvd?

These videos are what it’s all about for real. Haters suck, watch the video folks. It’s all about Phamily.

I dont know how i feel about phish videos. Im always afraid that they’re gonna cut to a shot of me trippin out, looking all crazy doing some evil chicken-noodle dance. Its like watching someone take a crap. Plus i usually kept my eyes closed at shows, anyway.

Well, that was an intelligently worded argument for downloading the videos.

I am glad there are videos, though. for those who werent there. Its jsut maybe not for me. I got IT, but i dont watch it much. i rather just listen to the shows.

^^LOL

I defnitely may download this with some of the Xmas $ I got. The setlist looks fantastic.
