listen to 7-15, 7-28, 8-08, 8-09 and 8-12 again.
8-12 especially has so many more highlights than 2-28. the ramble on melts right into slave to the traffic light. the mikes gets down right dirty and then there is the encore…burnin down the house, yem. this yem was voted as one of the top 10 ever in the pharmers almanac and i would totally agree with it.

i love this show and was real impressed when i was there…def. not overrated though…if you want to discuss overrated shows, (i’m going to catch hell for this), i think 12.31.95 is. yes it is a very good show, but best ever?

Sorry booz old pal, but summer 98 is just too light on extended jams for my taste. It all kinds of sounds the same after awhile, a lot of the jams tread similar ground. I do like those shows, I just think 2/28/03 is better.
So your saying 2-28-03 is better than 7-17-98, 7-28-98, 7-29-98, 8-3-98 and 8-11-98. :

i’m amazed at teh lack of respect that the 2.28.03 bowie gets. i think that after teh 10 minute mark there is some amazing improvisation.
and i think i listen to the sleep from this show as much as any other song from it. beautiful song.
Having been on summer tour in '98 and at the Nassau show, I would have rather been at almost any of the '98 show than 2.28. There was sooo much evolving and change going on throughout that summer and into the fall. Nassau was a GREAT show, but it just didn’t do as much for me personally as most of those summer shows
^agreed…wasn’t part of the scene in summer 98’ but by listening to a lot of the shows i would much rather been a part of summer 98’ than winter 03’…not that i did not have a great time at the winter show i was able to go to…it is just that 98’ in general is way more all around solid than the 03’ shit
I liked summer 98, but like I said, not nearly enough mind blowing improv. It was more like groovy, funky, mellow jamming.
^groovy, funky, mellow is what kaktus likes … but that’s not to say that i don’t like some mindblowing improv, too …

What the hell are you talking about? There was a lot of mind blowing improv in summer and fall 97. 97 is my favorite year of Phish after all!

Not necessarily. If you compare summer 98 to fall 97 especially, there’s clear differences.
