Was it? The following stats may not indicate that 2008 was the best sports year ever, but it sure as hell means a shitload of people were glued to their TV sets for sporting events.

Massive upset in Super Bowl, a throwback to the 80s rivalries in the NBA Finals, the Phillies finally winning, the US taking back the Ryder Cup, Federer/Nadal at it’s peak, an awesome college football season…I’d say 2008 is right up there.

I watched 0 minutes of the Olympics, but I’d rank 2008 highly just for the Giants win. Best year ever? No. But better than a lot of years.

i think those stats better reflect that people spent a shitload more time sitting on their asses. It would have been the best sports year ever if the cubs won the series.

Come on people. If a lot of people were sitting on their fat asses tuning into the boob-tube, that’s at least some indication that something good was on. Hence the possibility that 2008 was the best sports year ever (it’s up there, but I’m not willing to say “best” ever, I don’t think).

tons of good moments on that list. that Tiger Woods US Open was really something special to watch. I’m glad I tuned in to see that, but my theory is, if the Redskins haven’t won the Super Bowl, then there is no way that it could possibly be the greatest year in sports. i’m sure you all agree with that point.
