2008 MLB Thread

Dr. Badgely my thoughts exactly? What the hell is that Ghost?

OlFactory Hue I feel your pain. I knew giving Kerry Wood the ball in the 9th would be disastrous. I’m just hoping he implodes now so Lou will open his eyes and realize that Carlos Marmol is the titties. He should be closing now. Upper management has sympathy for Wood and are rooting for him to succeed, as am I, however let’s get real. He is either going to get hurt or we’ll get more of the same as today. I honestly think that Wood closing is not Lou’s idea. He is too smart for that. I think he is being influenced by Jim Hendry. Lou understands politics and is willing to give him a shot, but he knows deep down it’s not going to work. Sacrifice a couple of games early to figure out what we got in the pen. Here’s to hoping I"m wrong.

PHG don’t give up your Twinkies. I know Livan is not the most exciting opening day starter, but he is a horse. He won’t post great numbers, but he will give you a shit load of innings. I also like the young guys Liriano obviously, and I also like Scott Baker and Kevin Slowey. I just don’t understand why they traded Matt Garza for Delmon Young. Seems like a questionable move as outfielders are a dime a dozen and dominant starters don’t come around everyday. There is no guarantee that Garza will be dominant, but I would have given him a chance.

Brahs! It’s the LA Coliseum! 115,000 people on hand, the largest crowd ever to watch a baseball game! LA vs. Beantown earlier this week!

Looks like I could put one over the fence in left field! They are only playing the game with two outfielders. Looks like they put the left fielder in at shortstop, and put the SS at 2nd with a deep fielder around 2nd base. Looks like when teams put the shift on when playing against Bonds. Crazy, I tell ya, crazy!

It’s hard - practically impossible - to see, but there’s a net in left field. I think they said it was something like 40-feet high. Kind of like a green monster. Yeah, 5 infielders!

You know who is a really sad story? Eric Gagne.

Probably one of the most obvious and not talked about cases of a steroid user. He blows now.

^Indeed. I had a friend who insisted for years Gagne was on roids and he’s all vindicated now that he was named in the Mitchell Report. It’s a shame cuz I liked the guy but that Bugs Bunny change-up he had in years past is LONG gone.

And DEAR LORD!! The undefeated season is OVER for the Detroit Tigers!! How could this happen!!!??

Seriously, our bullpen is gonna be a pain this year. I’m not sure if I can take another year of Jason Grilli. I really can’t…

Stevo

Yeah the one seemingly obvious advantage the Twins have over both the Indians and Tiggers would be our bullpen, specifically Neshek and Nathan.

If those two guys can have solid years and we can regularly score 5 -7 runs, that just may be able to keep us in the race.

^Yeah, too bad you guys traded or let go every other key member of your team. Who needs Santana, Hunter and Castillo!! We have Nesheck and Nathan!! It must really suck being fans of such a team owned by such a cheap-ass owner.

Seriously though, Nesheck is a frickin MONSTER. Why he’s not the closer is beyond me but I can’t remember the last time I saw someone get to him. He’s incredible. Maybe we can get your cheap owner to trade him to the Tigers at 10 cents on the dollar. MWHAHAHA…

Stevo

^Yeah I know the lame realities of our ownership, but the fact that we are cheap-asses and are still in the discussion and won 3/4 division titles from 2003–>2006 says that at least we are running things with intelligence. I like most of the players on our team.

And the Angels and Mets both overpaid for Hunter and Santana. I would’ve been pissed if we would have paid either of those salaries, because that would be all of our payroll (being cheap-asses and all).

There’s a good chance that both Hunter and Santana have peaked. Santana is dominant but he still gives up runs, sometimes a lot early in games.

We’ll see…

Indians bullpen is bomb.

12 deep with the current reigning Cy Young, Carmona who was also considered for Cy Young, and even some new over-seas talent, w00t!

And don’t forget about Wild Thing:

Give 'em the heater, Ricky!

I just started reading this; never heard of the guy but it looks good!

Ha ha ha! I wish I was a doctor.

Damn! That’s what I get for not reading much about pre-season or watching any sports TV…

I don’t watch more than 15 minutes of baseball during the entire regular season, but shit like that intrigues me.

Hey, I agree. But imagine if they were actually willing to spend just a LITTLE to keep your good players combined with the fact that you’ve clearly got a smart GM and a great manager. It’s good enough to win the division but a little spending is what you’d need to win it all.

Oh that’s silly. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t rather have an pimp arm like Santana still in your lineup…you can never have too many good pitchers. Schilling has been declining year by year but you can’t tell me that the Sawks fans don’t mind him on the mound during playoff time.

Stevo

OMG.

Kansas City is undefeated & leading the AL Central!

Enjoy it, Royals fans… ;D

^And the Tigers are the only team in the entire league without a win. It’s bizzaro world.

Stevo

Even though I hate the Tiggers, this first week was obviously a fluke. After this weekend when the Twins sweep the Royals, their annual fate will be sealed.

LAST PLACE.

Memo to Cubs:

LET’S GET SOME RUNS!!!

So far…pitching = b+
