2008 MLB Thread

I saw that video the other day…why on earth would he cut that off when he’s actually quite a ways from the infield himself? That no make-a sense.

I normally don’t really care for baseball, but the concept of inter-league play is pretty cool and there’s some good series this weekend.

I can’t wait to see the second-to-last-place Tigers playing the first-place D-Backs. That should be a joy. At least we don’t run into Brandon Webb.

Good to see some nice base-brawls the past too nights. Kemp of the Dodgers and Torrealba for the Rockies getting into it two nigts ago was the under card for the main event of last nights action: Coco Crisp vs. James Shields.

If I’m Coco Crisp I’m not charging the mound on Shields. Everyone knew he was getting beaned the first time he came up to bat for his shenanigans the night before. The Ray’s skipper Joe Maddon was yelling at him from the dugout. The reason I’m not chargin if I’m Coco Crisp is becasue first and foremost my name is Coco Crisp and second of all because I weigh like 180. It was even funny to see his postgame press conference. He was pretty cocky about the whole thing like he got over on the Rays. No Coco you really didn’t just get a little scratched up. In fact I saw Jonny Gomes land a couple of nice haymakers.

Nice to see the Tigs finish off the sweep of the Sox with the Cabrera walk-off yesterday. Maybe that’s the start of something…the starting pitching has been very good for the last few weeks so that’s good.

And tonight we have the greatest of them all against the Dodgers…

Be AFRAID!!!

Oh sweet Jeebus!!

Aramis Ramirez walk off homer to beat the White Sux!
What a way to start the weekend.

GO CUBS!

Hell Yeah Gamecat…and how abou that 9 run 4th inning today…Edmonds hits two HRs in the same inning…Go for the sweep tomorrow.

The festivities on the north side warrant the Bill Murray special. Hell yeah. Go Cubbies.

Also I think you were being kinda ironic at first Stevo, but Galarraga has turned into a pretty decent pitcher. Don’t sleep on Detroit. Cleveland isn’t hitting and I don’t know if the Sox can keep it up.

Anyways onto the Bill Murray special.

It’s nice that you two share my passionate hatred of the White Sox.

Ozzie Guillen needs to go away.

I was gonna say he needs to die, but its just baseball, I guess.

^Ozzie is the best if only for his interviews. When he gets fired they need to get him into a studio so he can analyze the games. He’d be fired in a month but that month would be glorious.

this Cubs/White Sox series seems to be picking up some steam in terms of a rivalry forming

i don’t have the attention span to watch it too closely but I’m keeping my eye on the game a little bit.

oh yeah, and THE TWINS HAVE WON 10 STRAIGHT BIATCHEZZ. It’s been a fun run lately.

Damn tough week for the boys in blue. I gotta admit been alot of sleepless nights for me this week. We have got to try to at least play .500 ball until the All Star Break. Good thing is that we have 7 games with the Giants in the next 1 week and a half. We should win at least 5 of these ,but they have a couple of decent pitchers (Cain, Lincecum) Get healthy and prepare for the second half of the season. Big Z and Soriano should be back soon.

Tigers are finally above .500! Hurray! Of course a big part of it was against the NL who might as well just be considered the minor leagues at this point. Aside from the top three or four teams in the league, that league is TERRIBLE. By the way, every year I hate the idea of pitchers hitting more and more…it’s just painful at this point…

Got a big series against the Twins…we’ll see if the Tigs can keep up this run against an actual legit AL team. Twins are like 10-1 and the Tigs are like 9-2 in the last group of games…two hot teams. Should be a fun one.

Sadly, you Twins fans might as well not tune in until Tuesday since we have playing. BE AFRAID!!

Give him the Cy Young!!!

Cubbies break the 4 game losing streak. Time for Lou to unwind.

Also forgot to mention did anyone see Saturday’s Dodgers Angels game. Crazy stuff. Jered Weaver and a relief pitcher through 8 innings of no-hit ball, too bad the Dodgers scored a run via error by Weaver himself. So the Dodgers dont’ record a hit yet win the game 1-0. Crazy.

Did anyone also see the minor league pitcher that is a switch pitcher? Really weird stuff here. Dude can throw lefty or righty. Apparently a batter he was facing was a switch hitter and they basically had a standoff for 5 minutes on what stance each would use. The batter stepped up batting left so the pitcher went lefty. The batter saw this so eventually switched to right and then the pitcher switched to right. This went on for some time until the umps ruled that the batter has to make his decision on which side of the plate he is hitting from because the team would have the option of calling in a relief pitcher for the right matchup. Really weird stuff. It’s on youtube if you get a chance check it out.

I saw that. Classic!

Also saw an interesting stat on the TB Rays this morning on Sportscenter.

In their 10-year franchise history, they average 18 1/2 GB in their division on July 1st. This year they are 1 1/2 games up. The closest GB was in 2000: 10 1/2.

This is pretty sweet. A guy catches Torii Hunter’s home run during BP and catches it all on film.

The best part is someone yells “put it on YouTube” and he says “I am, I am!”

That’s a hilarious story. I’ve always wondered why we’ve never seen a switch-pitcher in the big leagues…I’ve heard tall tales of guys doing it in college but I’ve never seen them make it to MLB. There’s got to be some ambidextrous kid out there who figures he can pitch on both sides.

Looks like the Twinkies are on the verge of a 4 game sweep of the Tiggers, completely burying their hopes of making a run with their over-paid, under-achieving team.

just felt like chiding teh super heady “Michigan Crew” while I can

I still hate the White Sox a million times more.

All-Star Break!

Be sure to watch the game on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.
There’s gonna be alot of old-timers there due to it being the last one at the park.
Should be a pretty nice night.

Oh yeah…GO CUBS!

Best in the big leagues!

I’ll check out the HR derby tonight as well.

Is it just me or is America fascinated w/ this whole Josh Hamilton thing?

It would not surprise me if he:

  • Won the HR Derby
  • Won the All-Star MVP
  • Won the American League MVP
  • Set the AL record for most RBIs in one season
  • Saved 17 kittens and 26 orphans from a fire

I guess we’re all just fascinated with what depths of hell he’s been through and his ability to bounce back. Everyone loves a good sob story.
