Oh and Stevo your one of the biggest sports guys on this site…you got to sign up for fantasy football. How could you not?
well, the Twins start a three-gamer with the Yankees tonight.
We’ve been swept by both the Red Sox and Yankees on the road this year, but we’ll see how it goes. we really should be able to beat Sydney Ponson tonight.
Dude where did Denard Span come from? Dude is raking.
^we’ve been hearing about him as Torii’s replacement since '02 or '03…he hasn’t spent much time in the majors though at all until this year. And us getting Carlos Gomez kinda put him on the back-burner again, so he didn’t make the team coming out of spring training, but with Cuddyer hurt we needed another outfielder.
and I like him better defensively AND at the plate compared to Go-Go. He has been pretty damn good.
booyah Twins shutout the Yankees!
Cubs had the day off yesterday. They start a 6 game road trip Tuesday. 3 in Atlanta and 3 in Florida. I’d like to see a 4-2 road trip. Though the Cubs always struggle against the Marlins.
The Brewers finished off a 4 game sweep of the Nationals. So they pull to within 3.5 games. They head out west to face San Diego and Los Angeles. Padres blow too. Hopefully they get beat up a little out west. Cardinals beat the Marlins so they move to within 6.5 games.
Harden on the bump Tuesday night against Charlie Morton of the Bravos. Let’s go Cubbies.
Hey, I ain’t denying ANY of this…the Cubs are on fire. But they have two things against them. 1) They play in the Minor League…err…I mean the NL and 2) They’re the Cubs. Hate to say it but those are major factors.
It could be because I don’t have a computer at home and really have no way that I could be in attendance at the actual draft. And I refuse to have a computer or someone else draft for me since I’ve tried that and it sucks. When I get online sometime in the next year or so, you KNOW I’ll be in there whomping all of ya’ll.
Not to mention that he’s maybe the fastest guy on the planet. He could hit it directly to the pitcher and run the throw out to first.
Stevo
Them Rays are tough. wtf!
Sox keep hiccuping but are still on pace for a playoff berth. birth. Bertha.
I can’t say much for the NL b/c I don’t see any of those games round these parts but I’m trying to figure how anyone is going to beat the Angels this year.
How 'bout those Rays indeed.
Man, what a fun team to watch play.
I’m really pulling for them to come out of the AL East.
Those Twins are playin great as well.
Nobody gave them a chance this year and look what their doing.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot…

Get the hell out of here Redbirds.
IT"S GONNA HAPPEN!
I think the Cubs got it in the bag if they get out of the Central.
The Dodgers are really the only other team in the NL to contend with them.
we’ll see if the Twins can beat Mussina tonight…that would really crush the Yankees.
Probably won’t happen though, he’s killed us in the past.
| But they have two things against them. 1) They play in the Minor League...err...I mean the NL and 2) They're the Cubs. |
Doesn’t this help them? I mean they only have to square off against one AL opponent. Wouldn’t make this an easier road for them to get to the World Series?
^whoa what kind of quoting is that, Fee?? haha
yeah I’ll be damn excited for the playoffs if the Twins can hold on and get it. I’d say we’d have a good chance against both the Red Sox and youthful D=Rays. The Angels are gonna be fucking tough to beat in the A.L. though.
but anything can happen!..yeah that’s what I’ve believed the last 3 times the Twins have made it and gotten swept.
I’m an idiot…I still don’t know how to quote like everyone else does on this board.
Press the handy ‘quote’ button, available on every post!
Best offense in MLB don’t mean squat when you have crappy pitching, sorry Wranglers.
Hope I didn’t speak to soon, currently 19-16 BoSox.
Thanks Swartzbaugh…I feel like an idiot.
Anyways. The Cubs get rained out tonight. Double header scheduled for tomorrow. Marquis vs. Morton at 1 pm and Harden vs. Campillo at 7 pm. I would love to see a sweep, but that will not be an easy task. Well unfortunately, the Brewers win again. Dammit. So the Brewers gain another 1/2 game. Plus they have CC and Sheets going the next two days in San Diego. I’ll be impressed if San Diego scores 2 runs over the course of those 2 games. Cardinals lose at Florida and are falling out of the division race. Updated standings:
NL Central
Cubs
Brewers 3GB
Cardinals 7GB
Big Day for the boys in blue. Cubs sweep the doubleheader today against the Braves. Jason Marquis picked up the win to improve to 8-7 in Game 1. Any games the Cubs win when Marquis is pitching is a huge bonus. The offense knocked out Morton after just 2.1 inning and end up pouring it on late to win 10-2. Edmonds and Soto both homered for the good guys.
The second game saw the Cubs score 4 quick runs in the 1st inning. Rich Harden had control issues, allowing 5 BB; however didn’t give up a run over 5.1 innnigs. Cubs tack on 4 more runs to take the second affair by a score of 8-0. Let’s go for the sweep tomorrow. Lilly on the hill tomorrow.
Brewers win again. No surprise there as they are facing the weak Padres and CC was on the mound. I honestly believe that Milwaukee is the Cubs biggest threat. You could make arguments for Philadelphia, the Mets, Dodgers, or Arizona (they always give us fits), but if Milwaukee’s young hitters are hot watch out. They rely on the HR ball a little too much, but they can explode for a ton of runs or can strike out with the best of them. They got a solid 1-2 punch, which is very scary in the 1st round. Good thing the Cubs won’t have to deal with that as division opponents can’t compete against each other in the first round.
Well the updated standings:
Cubs
Brewers 3.5 GB
No disrespect to the Cardinals, but they are fading from the division race. They aren’t done yet and they are very much alive in the Wild Card, but I don’t see them making the postseason.
Cubs Win!! Cubs Win!! Nice sweep of the Braves. Gotta take care of these kind of teams. Lilly gets the win as the Cubs pour it on once again to win 11-7. Interesting note that Mark Kotsay actually went 5-5 for the Bravos and hit for the cycle. Pretty impressive as it was the first Brave to hit for the cycle since 1987.
Cubs capitalized on the Brewers loss earlier in the day as the Padres hand the Crew a 3-2 loss. Thanks in large part to Jake Peavy as the Padre offense is brutal.
Cubs head to Florida for the weekend to end this 6 game road trip. Big Z on the mound tomorrow. The Cubs have historically struggled in Florida so if they win 2 out of 3 I’ll be thrilled. I initially was hoping for a 4-2 road trip, but with the sweep in Atlanta I got to get greedy now. Lets try to win 5 of 6. Brewers head to LA for the weekend. Go Dodgers!
Updated standings:
Cubs 74-47 (27 games over .500; that’s the most since the end of the 1984 season when the Cubs were 26 games over)
Brewers 4.5 GB
Cardinals 7.5 GB
my Rays are so close to a playoff spot for this year, we probably get in. Funny thing is, I bet we get swept in the opening wildcard series! Fans around here are going nuts because of the Rays success this year, but this is a young squad with zero postseason experience. I don’t expect them to do much in the playoffs. Most fans around here drink too much kool aid and are delusional when it comes to sports. I think some of them have taken one too many UV rays to the dome or something.
